The troubles have a quick fix.

You are right, they are not wall mountable.

Guess the search continues :)

I suggest going through eBay instead of buying new. Speakers don't really degrade over time. I found a z5500 for around 100 pound

Just my 2p.

bytheway what sound card do you use with that?

I have a Z5500 myself, and you can mount those to the wall without any problems (you just need to drill a few holes).
I'm not sure about buying second hand speakers though, as I'm always under the impression speakers can be broken by putting them way too loud. You can't know for sure if someone has "abused" the speakers or not.

Edit: I just use the onboard audio on my motherboard (optical out).

I'm using an ancient X-FI xtreme gamer fatal1ty pro card. TBH if your motherboard is recent enough you don't need a soundcard.

I don't know anyone who in their right mind would blast these speakers close to their maximum volume. You'll go deaf before you'll blow the speaker out. Then again, I don't know allot of uncivilized people. I'm rocking an altec lansing ADA 885 which is probably a good 10 years old (speaker EOL around 2006 IIRC) when I got it from eBay. Still works beautifully. Only used 2/7th of the volume and it is already almost uncomfortably loud.

Mandatory statement - Good stereo speakers blow surround-in-a-box sets out of the water.

What if you have low budget and you really want good positional accuracy with speakers though?

Especially if you're on a budget - spend as much as you can on two good speakers, and position them correctly. No headphone can come close to the soundstage of a pair of nicely angled bookshelf speakers.

My experience, speakers sound more open than headphones but with headphones you can know which direction the enemy is better. So that two speakers have better soundstage, but not as good imaging.

It's all about positioning the speakers correctly. If the sound bounces around too much before or after getting to your ears, your brain wont know how to interpret the data. Headphones are easier to get consistent results, but once you hit the sweet spot with a pair of speakers, you'll be able to tell instantly when they've been moved and inch by your mischievous little brother/sister.

But it has to be positioned very, very well. Like, a regular speaker next to the monitor and the gamer a foot away from both monitor and speakers won't really cut it, no? If one makes a room dedicated to good speaker positioning and acoustics. Even then, I think a 7.1 version of a normal 2.1 or 2.0 setup would be better for imaging. Of course the cost of turning a nice 2.0 setup into a 7.0 setup is mucho.

Any who thinks these surround systems have good bass have clearly never heard a real sub or speaker system.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

But my 1000w PA speaker experience could be had at home for a grand $50, who cares if its worse when its just as loud.

Hi guys sorry for the late reply. In the end i went with creative t6300 because i found them quite cheap at eBay and they arrived today.

The speakers i had before very 5 year's old and the left one was near enough dead.

Soo coming from that to the t6300 maaaan the difference is night and day.

I know these are not wall mountable, i have made a makeshift wall holder for the two rear speakers but the wires are not long enough so i need an extension. Does anyone know what kind of wires i need to make them longer?

Somewhere i read that i need and Rca extension male to female or something like that.

Any help is appreciated.

Affy.
