Rotated PC Case

Zal Das

I'm wanting to put a case above my desk/monitor. Looking at something like Thermaltake Core P3 ATX case (or similar) but want to rotate it 90 degrees, such that the IO/wires all come out of the bottom for easier hiding and routing down to my monitor/power.

Figure this also helps solve the GPU sagging issue (vs vertical mounting) as GPU is along its long axis in this orientation.

My question, is there any downsides to such a mod, are there any cases already designed with this concept (or wires to back when case is flush with a wall)?

Thank you!

You'd still have gpu sagging, just 90 degrees the other way. To be honest, no matter what orientation, just get one of those lipstick GPU anti-sag brace, even if you place it on the cpu cooler I don't think it will matter much.
As for the whole pc being upside down, I don't think there should be any issues.

VERY old pic (like mid 2010s) but here's my rig when I went wall mounted. It's cleaner to have a regular case and use some wire spiral wrap.

+1 for having a USB hub mounted under the desk, ~10 years later, I went mITX when Ryzen launched and PC is on my desk but I still use it

Very nice setup.

Next level:  Run wires thru wall like for a fireplace mounted TV!    Should be a nice short run 5 feet up and down.  I mean, for those who wall mount still.

It looks funky, but feet move to bottom, but this is the orientation, with IO coming out the bottom/side its resting on.

I know some old Silverstone cases used to have the wires coming out the top of the case.  So that's a company I'd look at for such a special request.  I have a Core P3 in my cupboard.  Here's what it looked like when it was deployed 🙂

It has a vesa 100x100 built in to the back of it so mounting it so the leads come out the bottom won't be a problem

It was tollerable.  Make sure you get the tempered glass though.  When I had the perspex side (all the early models came with perspex) it was a bit noisier
