I’d consider AA (or similarly standard cells) a must-have for a controller. I keep them for a very long time. My 360 controller gets regular use after a decade.

My eyes see the past…

My camera lens sees the present…

I've had a number of 8BitDo controllers for PC over the years and they've all been fantastic. The latest Ultimate 2.4Ghz with the dock is $45 US right now on Amazon. Cannot be beat.

What about the gulikit kk3? I remember Gulikit being at gamescom last year. I hold one of their controllers i dont remember it could have bin the new kk3 or another cheaper one, but it felt amazing in the hands. In amazon the kk3 max seems to be the best alternative to the elite controller without going to other expensive ones like scuff. Would be nice to have data about performance.

Can you find replacement batteries for the Ultimate 2C? Looks like a very good value, but if it's disposable I refuse to buy it.

Ultimately (no pun intended) 8BitDo does not seem to offer an official battery replacement in their parts catalog.

iFixit has a guide to replace it, however you will need to source a battery on your own.

Reading the couple of comments on that repair article, it appears to be a 303454 pack, however at least what's available on amazon look to be a slightly different form factor though they may still be able to fit inside the shell. For example: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=480mAh+battery&i=electronics&crid=3FIPZ95RK8Q8R&sprefix=480mah+battery%2Celectronics%2C66&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

I own the 2.4Ghz/Bluetooth Ultimate with the charging dock, probably uses the same battery. I have no personal concerns with sourcing something from Amazon myself to replace it if the need ever arises.

No, you'll need the Bluetooth versions that have Switch compatibility for that.

Frankly the one to get for PC only gamers IMO is the normal Ultimate 2.4Ghz (non-C) that comes with the charging dock for $45 right now.

IIRC, that only has gyro in Switch mode though, right?

Why is it so hard for controller manufacturers to make their controllers compatible with gyro on PC when they have the hardware? is Xinput getting in the way?

I used the gyro on my Ultimate 2.4Ghz with PC a number of times, though it was back when I was emulating switch games which I don't do anymore. Plenty of talk online about how to get that working. Honestly I can't remember which mode I had to be in.

This is great info. I bought a Gamesir wired controller for the PC, and I'm happy with it.

Question for y'all... I have two Xbox controllers (one from the Series X, one from the Xbox One S) and both have the same trigger issue. The pad or whatever stinks, and makes the triggers stick. I've opened it up and tried to clean it, but the pad itself falls apart. I'd love to either replace the little pads (cheapest, ideal) route, but I wouldn't be too sad to spend money on a seriously good controller for the Xbox. Does anyone have any recommendations either way? Thanks a ton!

This video reminded me, is there a way to trick games into thinking that you are using a xbox controller? When I launch a game with my xbox controller attached I get the right buttons, but with third party controllers it doesn't show them. I hate it when games display general icons, instead of the xbox buttons in game.

8bitdo controllers in general are amazing! Also I would like to see LTT testing the Dualsense more in-depth with the DSX software from Steam. It allows for a ton of different features (many of which DS4Windows also has) but it specifically allows to emulate a wired Dualsense over bluetooth which enables all its features in Sony's first party titles and other games that support these like The Crew Motorfest.

That 8BitDo Ultimate 2C looks NIIICE with Hall Effect sticks and Hall Effect triggers; wish I could use it on my PS5 since every DualSense seems to be a ticking time bomb with respect to stick drift. Really like my current PC controller though, the Power A Fusion Pro wired that I got in a Best Buy clearance deal for $30 a couple of years ago.

Anyone know if the 8bitdo controllers have easy access to turn off rumble? (Physical switch? Or easy access once opening up to unplug?) Sadly a whole bunch of games are made without a vibration toggle in the software, and vibration physically hurts me (perpetual tendonitis in my hands/wrists basically). I use an Xbox controller that I've had modded to remove the motors, but the sticks are starting to drift. (If it matters, I'd prefer to get get wired... no idea why people value wireless so much. Especially with the ewaste/battery issues.)

Set them both to 0.

Couldn't function anymore without wireless controllers and mice. Feels so awful to go back to them. After nearly 10 years of it, i'm not aware of this supposed "battery issues".

I was really surprised by the absence of gulikit controllers, especially since LTT has raved about their controllers in the past:

The gulikit controllers like the one in the vid I posted above work with PC and switch seamlessly.

This is only $10 more than the KKP2 and seems more in stock, worth it?

The main differences I notice is some buttons on the underside of the controller, an included USB dongle and some LED lights. It's up to you to decide if any of that is worth $10. I'd probably go for the newer one.
