Hello friends. I'm new to these forums, but not to LinusTechTips, so I thought I'd swing over here to ask for some advice. After watch Linus' latest video, I'm hankering for that 4k 60hz goodness. BUT I need the rig to support it. Currently, I've got as follows:

AMD 1055t @ 3.8ghz

ASUS r9 290 DC II OC @ 1100mhz

ASUS crosshair IV formula 890fx motherboard (PCIexpress 2.0)

16GB of gskill ripjaw ram @ 1333mhz

OCZ 700W PSU

MY QUESTION: Would crossfired 290's ON MY BOARD be enough to drive the latest games (BF4, FC3, etc) at 50-60 fps on decent settings. I'm willing to sacrifice AA (it's 4K after all), but texture quality and the like is a must. Would this be viable at all? Or should I just bide my time and jump on a intel setup? Maybe just get a nice 1440p monitor?

What do you think.

Thanks in advance.

-Jack

I think 2x 290's would push med at 60fps and possibly high as well, but I think you might get bottleneck by the 1055t, Fx 8350 would be a different story though.

when a high end card can drive a 4k alone then it will be the time to buy, 7970 and 680 drove 1440p good and look at 1440p popularity rise

I still prefer 3440 x 1440 to 4K.

Just sayin'

in all reality Mr. TechTips couldn't you call that 4k

And Dustin might I reccomend 1600p?

As a few of you have recommended, I think I'll opt for 1440p instead. I'm currently on a 27" 1080p monitor, so it should still be a noticeable upgrade. Will a single 290 with my cpu handle bf4 multiplayer at ultra? Maybe without AA?

A somewhat related question. Would PCIe 2.0 throttle r9 290 crossfire? Since the r9 290 runs crossfire completely through the board, I'm wondering if those bandwidth limits might actually be a problem in this case. Thought?

Thanks again for all the help!

You will probably get a bit over 60 fps and I don't think PCIe2 will throttle or bottleneck atall as long as you stick with 2way crossfire, and I reccomended 1600p which is a slight step up but not much as it's still 2560 just an extra 160 vertical columns of pixels

3840 width pixels isn't 4K either.

Exactly till it's 4240p it's not 4k to me >.< using the K numeration isn't particularly specific as I could say 2k and it could mean anything from 1050p-1600p
