Hello,

For some reason, XMP does not take effect for my corsair vengeance lpx ram stick.

As soon as i enable XMP (3200Mhz), the memory speed goes to 2133Mhz.

Even when i set it up manually with the same settings as the XMP profile, if i set it up to 3000Mhz, it work fine, just fine. However, if i go for 3200 it goes back to its base clock.

I have never experienced anything like this. plz help !!

Note, this is the only stick of ram i have in my system.

CPU: R5 2600X

MB: Gigabyte AX370 gaming k5

That's probably the issue. The memory controller on the 2600X is pretty bad, and while most CPUs can do 3200MT/s, on the motherboards without a great memory topology like Gigabyte X370 boards it can have issues. Just run at 3000MT/s.

200Mhz isn't that much, just run it at 3000Mhz like @RONOTHAN## said

the problem is that it is not like it fails to boot or something. It boots without a problem with XMP, it just that when i go to check the mem speed, i find out that it is running at the base speed.

that 2600x day's are counted .. I have already ordered a Ryzen 7 5700.

just to correct u about something 3000Mhz = 1500MT/s. (Just sharing some knowledge)

yeh, that is what im gonna do. 3000Mhz it is.

It is just that i have that mentality of i paid full price for 3200Mhz, I wanna use 3200Mhz. LOL

My brain brains like that. I can't help it.

well, if you are a real enthusiast, you could try dropping CL latency 1-2, now idk how to do that so you'll have to research/ask someone else/find it in BIOS

No, it's the other way around. MHz is frequency, MT/s is data rate. DDR stands for double data rate, so the data rate is twice the actual frequency. 3000MT/s = 1500MHz.

AMD has a safe boot function, which means that if it doesn't boot properly it will just boot at default settings.

No. Again, RAM is double data rate, meaning the data rate is twice the frequency as it transfers data on the rising clock and the falling clock. The actual frequency is measured in MHz, while the data rate is twice that and measured in MT/s.

alright,

but if you know it's DDR, then it doesn't really matter

yeah, it's just symantics, I just try to use the right terminology. The only area where it really matters is when you use something like CPU-Z to check memory speed where it reports the actual memory frequency and it doesn't line up with the advertised memory "frequency"

I usually don't care about terminology, at least when it comes to things like RAM speed, very small nitpicky areas people use 50 different names and everyone understands anyway kind of deal..
