Two GPUs in two slots?

Hi everybody!

 

Right now my PC is using this board which has 2x PCI-E X16 slots. One is populated by my Nvidia 1650 and just upgraded the kids' PCs from 1050's so I have two spares on hand.

 

1. Can I run 2 GPUs without hiccups?
2. Would there be a benefit like in the olden days of "SLI" if memory serves me correctly? The use case would be video editing at a casual level. If I can get some more performance without paying, why not?

1) Yes

2) Nope absolutely pointless. You don’t gain anything from multigpus unless your application supports it. AFAIK no consumer video editing app does.

For SLI there's a need for the exact same GPU

GTX 1650 does not support SLI, neither does a GTX 1050 and neither does the motherboard.

I use a secondary card for Lossless scaling frame generation. Works flawlessly, but probably not much use for video editing.
I use it to play Skyrim.

 

The game has a main FPS cap of 60 and going above that without some specific mods, messes up the games physics.

So I just use a secondary HD 7770 card (less powerful than 1050 I think) to generate frames and boost 60 -> 120 (1080p). Feels more smooth using a controller anyhow.

Just wanted to let you know that there IS a way to use a secondary card in very specific ways. 

 

AFAIK you can also use the secondary card to upscale videos/games on the go using FSR and what not.
