Great, how should I go about re-installing windows I鈥檓 on windows 10 and would like to upgrade to 11, but it isn鈥檛 necessary, and I don鈥檛 really care if I keep all my files.

Create a USB stick using Microsoft's official image: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 (or https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows11)

If you haven't already, create a Microsoft account and sign in on your current PC. This should associate its Windows key with that account. Then you can transfer the key to the new machine: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/reactivating-windows-after-a-hardware-change-2c0e962a-f04c-145b-6ead-fb3fc72b6665#ID0EBD=Windows_10

Whatever files you want to keep, make a backup on some external USB drive (which is a good idea regardless), then simply copy them to the new PC. Or transfer them from the old PC using Windows file sharing or similar

I鈥檓, upgrading from an ASUS B150 and i5 6500 to an ROG B450 and Ryzen 7 3700X, any tips to make the upgrade as smooth, and high performance as possible?

Thanks馃檹

Other than making sure you have the right cpu cooler bracket if your changing that over aswell there's not much to say.

Nice upgrade.

Oh and do a fresh windows install , not worth the hassle trying to fix driver issues going from skylake to am4.

Are you getting those now or?

What the price on these parts. Normally a 5600 is cheaper and its better in all ways.

I got the 3700X for $125 CAD on eBay while 5600s are usually around $150-$180 new and used ones are hard to come across, the 7 also has more cores which I find useful for performance multitasking

You can still buy the 3700x now and a 5600/5700/5800 later down the line...if supported.
If the board supports the newer CPU's, I'd sell the 3700x and buy a 5600 or better at some point.. you'll get the single core performance boost (IPC uplift over 3700x) and that will carry the 6 cores to NEARLY match the 8 cores of the previous, iE you won't lose much of the multicore you are after but still carries better IPC in those 6 cores, and still will destroy your older i5 6500 in all tasks.
If you grab the 3700x, and If you can support Ryzen 5600, and find a used one eventually, you could buy it, then sell your 3700x, or don't buy the 3700x first, be more patient with your i5 6500 while you find and buy a 5600 (used/new)

Spoiler
Unless your APPS are HEAVILY HEAVILY Multithreaded where you can notice the extra cores it might not be as good of a gain as you think having the 8 cores vs the faster 6 cores., the 3700x vs 5600 in Lightly Multithreaded workloads isn't too far apart.
Even though I'm pushing you towards Ryzen 5600., EITHER will ruin the i5 6500 so either of them is a NET WIN.

Those are completely different motherboards. If I was replacing my MOBO I would get an AM5 board and get a newer CPU.聽
