isnt z97 technically future proofing?

i know i know future proofing isnt a thing but could you argue that z97 is in a way? if you were to get it now and use 4th gen with it you will have the ability to upgrade to 5th gen later thus making it ready for the future

future proof...no such thing

 

more future friendly... certainly yes

 

who knows z87 may support DC

 

if z87 supports dc it may also support broadwell

 

officially z87 does not support dc, until dc is released and people try it on z87 we wont know.

 

i have a sneaky suspicion z87 will support dc.

Z68 and Z77 done the same thing. Also I can't wait until Intel kills the socket again.

i would go 2011 if you want some longevity...but i guess this will become 2014 soon enough..

No. It just has a few more upgrade paths than other motherboards.

and with that kind of logic your saying that 2011 was replaced with 1150 yet 2011s still going strong but then again 2011 is in its own separate division because its not consumer grade

That's not what I was saying. LGA 2011 is in another class. 

 

As the generations went along 1366 was replaced by 1155 then that was replaced with 1150. Probably so motherboard vendors can get more money when people upgrade to the next socket.

I just corrected my mistake and z97 will be current for a year and then replaced and so its not futureproof, unless you count the future as a year.

The only thing I could see as being close to "Future proof" would be the 8C/16T X99s that are coming. It's going to take a long time or have some weird requirements in order to need more then what that potential platform can provide.
