So many applications for this small tech.

 

- Portable scientific hardware modeling system.

- Full portable medical equipment

- Life in a box

- Portable RAG AI platform for all of your needs (think Jarvis?)

What is the definition of a supercomputer? Physically it is built for a task, but the compute side isn't special as far as I can tell. Basically it's a single socket EPYC CPU with 4 GPUs stuck on it assuming you want a big pool of storage too.

 

The L40S used seem to have the same core configuration as RTX 6000 Ada (few more than 4090), and L40S has slightly higher clocks at same rated power.

Thats some markting wank calling it a super computer. You can call any desktop PC today a super computer because its more powerful then a super computer 20 years ago. 

This is just a Server rack with dolly wheels attached to the bottom. Its explicitly a minicomputer. Not to say the density isn't cool, but calling it super strongly turns me off of it

Yeah, this is pretty much the only use case I can think of. In what other situation are you collecting terabytes of data while not having a high end system nearby, or reachable through the internet?

This looks to be a solution for a traveling sales engineer to pitch a proof of concept (POC) AI application.

 

Alternatively, I could see this being used for military applications.

but for what? Like seriously, what military anything needs 4 gpus in a portable unit?

Tbh, we are seeing the development of AI shoot-to-kill automation and I can definitely see the need for compute in portability in they regard

I'm talking about deciding the difference between a civilian and a combatant in CAS, automated indirect fire and drone tanks/ground assault drones.

 

Takes much more compute than aiming at something if it is is traveling over x speed in x directly

I would doubt most militaries would even take that risk. If a jumpy soldier can make a mistake, what about an AI trained off of one?
