what could be wrong with my pc?

so recently (been few weeks now, wished i could have asked this question before), my 480gb crucial bx500 ssd has this really weird issue like when there's some heavy write operation (like copying files) it would throw error saying file is corrupt or unreadable then after i check in device manager i refresh t would show up at a drive with model no. sm2259ac

about which found nothing conclusive online except there couple of threads on HP site with similarities that it shows 1gb unallocated space in disk management and seem like it is an SSD for that laptop model which was listed in thread. Could my computer be hacked?

it's a very strange issue because i tried swapping sata cables and ports but still struggling to solve this issue. Before this problem started my boot drive which is also bx500 but 120gb, it would crash in few days or a week randomly with inaccessible boot device or another similar error in disguise and would stop detecting in bios unless i do a boot cycle but ever since this current issue that thing solved and now even this issue usually requires to do a boot cycle.

I am using a sata to molex adapter for one of the ssd i think i swapped it when i was facing trouble with boot drive now as it is on other one i can't think of what could wrong, would be very strange if a molex to sata power to cause this.

health is fine, i swapped sata power (putting molex adapter to other drive) and for some reason it looks good so far.

Bad contact, HDD slowing down and speeding up for no reason, hardly enough Volts coming through (-U=I*R).

Now I believe, this is supported by reports, that Molex doesn't stay reliable through many unplug/plug cycles.

I still currently use one molex, for powering HDDs, in my desktop but I never unplug the connection there any more.

you might be right, i had the exact same issue with this ssd of late now as i have put molex adapter to my boot drive will see if that acts up instead, i think i should buy a new molex to sata adapter. It's bit dusty and old and the other one i have doesn't work at all. I will look around in my house if i can find a proper one, iirc i had atleast 3-4 of them lying around.

what did you do to fix the slow hdd issue? rn on my ssd im getting like 10-12MBps file transfer speed whereas on my HDDs i easily get over 100MBps.

I just switched to a fresh Molex, connect it firmly and never disconnect it again.

But I doubt this is your problem. SSDs need less power than HDDs (as far as I know).

How full is the drive ?

Does crucial provide a software to deal with the drive ? (update the FW, flush the cache...)

SSD is almost 80% full

yes, there is crucial storage executive but i haven't used it in a long time (don't even have it installed)

there is no update available available for bx500, infact crucial never released for the whole lifetime of this ssd model and it's unlikely they will do now

by flush cache you mean trim? if yes, those are set for weekly in windows disk defragmenter.

That's the controller in the BX500
post a crystaldiskinfo screenshot of whole SMART table of it.
It could be just NAND dying, or firmware issues. (do note, that SSD FW is stored in NAND, so NAND problems can induce a firmware issues, famous in Phison S11 case)

If you can, buy propor SATA power PSU cable (just be sure they are for your models, as if not, they will kill your HDD/SSD)

hmm all I see are communication errors, do the parameters B7, or/and C7 errors increase the "raw value", when you have problems?
Wait and do another  screenshot from Crystaldiskinfo, after next problems occur, and compare them to see if it increased.
Remember the raw values are in HEXadecimal

And yes, the symptoms would match the problem (B7, and C7)

by flush cache you mean trim?

No, Your ssd has a fast slc cache of 32gb. The rest of the drive is slow.

So if you flush that cache the drive is guaranteed to be fast during the next burst.

That's the theory I know.

75% is not a value I like. My 5 year old QLC OS drive is at 96%.

Maybe you could try something.

Your drive is pretty full, probably since a long time. So 20% of the drive share 100% the writing wear.

Once in a while I move all the non OS data to an HDD and back to allow Trim to even out the wear among (almost) 100% of the drive.

Probably you could also backup the whole drive and rewrite it using a boot key, so refreshing to the max.

Also (maybe) you could lower that usage of your drive. I try to stay around 50% full on my 2TB drive.

i know 75% health isn't great but that's no surprise because i keep moving games and stuff (OCD). I know i need to stop this otherwise my SSD wouldn't last long. It's not even an year old and had full health when i got it last year from my brother. I think 90GB should be ample amount of free space for this 447GB SSD and that's only serving me 4 triple A titles. I wish i got a new SSD when they were cheap few months ago, now prices are all over the place.

I'm surprised, friday I ordered a 4TB WD SN850X for 220usd.

Probably you could also backup the whole drive, erase it properly and then rewrite it using a boot key, so refreshing to the max using Acronis, EaseUS, MacriumReflect or another clone tool.
