Which resolution? 1080p? 1440p?

RTX 3060 12GB for 1080p, maybe a 4060.

1440p - RTX 4060 Ti, RTX 3070 Ti

An 8700k is still fine for current stuff, the first gen to get out of quadcore hell.

Should pair fine with its era high end and modern equivalents. So a 1080ti or Vega 64.

That would like an RTX 3060/4060 or RX 6600 XT or 7600 tier GPU today.

The A770 I wouldn’t recommend on coffee lake due to the lack of consistent resizable bar. If your board supports resizable bar, it’s on the table though.

What psu? 500W as a number excludes most quality units so if its some group regulated one, 4060 is nice choice just because of the low wattage.

At 500W you're not gonna go to far past a 3060 / 6600 XT tier GPU.

So, you will need a bigger PSU, but if you plan to upgrade later, you can move a bigger PSU to a new build, and then put the 500 back in this build then.

Anyways:

650-750W is the base PSU you want for a 70-80 tier card.

Before suggesting a new GPU:

Do you have any intentions of upgrading the PC in the future?  a good GPU now can be moved to a new build in the future easily.

You can use the same CPU and GPU and be bottlenecked at 1080p but not at 1440p or 4k

It is worth mentioning to people who haven’t been regularly working with older generation hardware, an 8700k runs at sub 90 watts full tilt. You can OC it slightly on the stock cooler. This isn’t like the 14700k and it’s 300 watt power draw.

A 500w psu and a 4060ti with that 8700k is fine.

Probably overkill, but sure.

gonna depend on the game.  "High FPS" is usually a CPU Limitation, not GPU.

and in "high FPS" titles, the 8700 is absolutely gonna be a limiting factor.

I don't trust auto-overclock features, they tend to go a bit heavy on the core voltage. If you enable the auto OC of whatever variety you've got, I also recommend manually dropping the vcore a little. You should be able to get a decent overclock on that CPU under 1.4 volts.

I've got my own rig and the wattage listed below. Even with a titan and a coffee lake i7, I am still not making full use of the 650 watt PSU that I've got. You can reasonably pair an 8700k with any graphics card close to 250 watts.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

The 8700K is pretty much the same as a Ryzen 5 3600, and here you have how that performs...
