Tats will be ok but you might want to check the 5800X3D

5800x3d isn't worth if you can get 7600

5700X3D? you lose about 2% of performance while saving £60

In some more intensive games the gap gets wider but they're using a 4090 here and not a 3060 ti so OP won't be bottlenecked either way

No worries, they're quite new (5600X3D isn't available outside of microcenter though)

if the ram is good enough then 'maybe' an upgrade to am4 could be viable with a 5700X3D and a ~£100 B550 with a PA120SE, the extra cache does come in handy in a few select games (benchmarks above)

If the ram is 3600 CL18 or 3200 CL16 then it'd be a bit of a toss-up

it is REALLY demanding though, I haven't personally tried it (haven't got either the time or the money for it lol) but I know that a 7800X3D + 4090 system at 4k (native) with RT on ultra gets around 80 fps

First ur absolutely right about the upgrade and yeah Hogwarts legacy is really hard to run without fps drops even with something like a 4070ti

you still technically get same performance on 7600

Thanks everyone for the advice. Swithering between AM4 and AM5 and mindful of the upfront costs versus the potential need to upgrade in the nearer future.  Also remember when I was 14 there was no chance I was getting £400 (or whatever the 1986 equivalent was) spent on me for a birthday.

Does this look reasonable?

Its OK, I’d get a 7500f from Ali express for 113 pounds and then get a good msi b650 gaming plus wifi for 150 pounds (and the msi has much better vrms and features

Ah, that's where you found it for £113.  I will take a look, thanks.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks everyone for the advice. In the end I told him to work it out. Good practice for him. He settled on the one I linked to above and 32gig of DDR5.  New MB not recognising the old M.2 drive but that is a thread for another forum.

Thanks all.
