Is my gpu fan dying?

Xihx

I got this refurbished 1050 ti back in 2020. It's thermal throttling to 80c+ these days. I tried repasting it and removing my PC's side panel so the hot air could get out. Genshin runs fine even when throttling but Overwatch struggles when playing for 10 minutes. Normally I'd get 110+ fps but it drops all the way down to 65-75 whenever the GPU reaches 80c+. If it matters, my PC specs are:

CPU: i3-12100f
GPU: ZOTAC 1050 ti Single fan
RAM: 16GB 3200mhz

Motherboard: Asus Prime H610M-E D4

Thank you for the help!!!

Are you seeing actual frequency drops at 80C? It's certainly possible, but if the fans are reported spinning at rated speed I'd be hard pressed to say that's the case.

ask me about my homelab

on a personal quest convincing the general public to return to the glory that is 12" laptops.

cheap and easy cable management is my fetish.

Welcome to the forums!

Can you stress test the GPU and look at the fan?

I just monitored the frequency while playing a match and this is the the GPU frequency I'm getting:

When the temps reached 80+, the GPU core frequency dropped to around 900MHz range

I tried running furmark and I just noticed that the fan is making a weird chugging noise while it's running. I did clean it from dust when I repasted it the other week.

How fast is the gpu fan spinning under load ?

I used MSI Afterburner to report gpu fan speed (before I switched to Fan Control)

I'm willing to swim against the current.

Oooh, is it possible you didn't tighten the screws evenly?

Worst case scenario you can just do the ole ziptie trick, it usually runs cooler that way regardless

I twisted all the screws until the screwdriver head latches off

Thank you!!! It was actually a prebuilt that I got for 18,000 php (318 usd) back in COVID era. It originally had an i3-6100 which had a bearable performance until you start multitasking. Genshin would use 100% of that CPU. The game runs fine but the OS would chug a lot.

Not really sure what that means. Were you using a torque screwdriver?
