Advice for a noob

I wanted to start a new topic for noobs joining the space. I have never built a computer before and want to get suggestions / feedback for others like me.

For my post, I am a programming student who wants some upgradability for the next 5 years or so, with a PC to be great for "productivity" and gaming. Please find my current build plan below, I currently have planned to use the hard drives in raid 1 with booting off the SSD, with looking to get a GPU in the future as I already have an Xbox series X, I'm just looking at getting away from the apple garden tbh as I have a MacBook m1 pro. Would appreciate the feedback, I am very very new to PC building as would love to learn more. I appreciate you all! 🙂

Could you open the link in the builder page and copy the link in the share area so i can edit your build a touch?

Can probably knock that build down a few hundred dollars without hurting performance at all

Personally, I would probably buy a windows key from vipcdkeys for around 15-20USD. But as for something you can upgrade after 5yrs, what you really need is an AMD. If you go with intel, the highest you can go is a 14th gen and from 13600k, the next best upgrade option that won't break the bank  if ever is a 14700k. But those won't improve gaming performance that much. You can also use 64gb ram as depending what you will do, you might need more ram than a normal gamer.

AMD build is probably not better in terms of productivity, but it will do and you can probably upgrade in 3-5yrs for a 1-3generation higher than 7000 series, depending on how much AMD will be generous with us. But what's important is that, if you upgrade to 8000 or hopefully ryzen 9000 and 10k gen(f their kind), will have performance uplift compared to 13th to 14th gen upgrade that you will be stuck with if you choose to go with intel now.

I'd do some savings on cooler, board, case and Windows key, to invest in a more powerful GPU and it'll still cost less 🙂

Also drop those stupid HDD, a 4TB NVme isn't even much more expensive....
