You need a Z790 board to overclock that cpu. No need to o/c tbh seeing how those cpu's are pretty much pushed to their limits out of the box.

So getting a overclocking motherboard wouldn't be worth the cost?

Not in terms of performance. If your goal is better gaming performance, dropping to a i5 and getting a faster GPU like a 7700xt would be a better bet in most games.

Well with the price drop on the I712700K at $250 i thought that would be the best bet for overall performance and streaming. What I5 would you recommend?

you didnt include storage to begin with so im assuming you already have it, this system will be hugely better

Here's a few cost cutters to your build. btw you want low profile RAM so that the heatsinks don't impede a dual tower cpu cooler.

This does look like a better build overall. What would you recommend for M.2 storage and storage for windows and other easy to run files on?

Don't you already have a 2TB m.2 drive? I'd use that

I see a 12600kf for $150 on amazon, so that seems like its worth the discount if you can get a better GPU.

Is this a built you already have or are planning to get?

Isn't that a m.2 drive in the proposed build you had?

Otherwise you can get away with almost any 2tb m.2 here as nothing is super disk io intensive here. So something like a p3 is reasonble here.

I see what you mean now. Yeah i picked that m.2 storage out, but wanted to know if i should have another harddrive for windows and other easy to run files. I figured that 2tb drive would be for gaming and software's like unreal engine and soildworks.
