I know that you have to pull it back to remove a gpu already installed, but what about if you have just unboxed your motherboard and built your pc but havent installed the gpu?

sorry for my bad english, it's my 2nd lanague

you push back the pcie clip which will allow you to slot in your GPU

the picture below is the GPU clip which you need to push down and it will be on the right of your PCIe slot

The retention clip is designed to hold the card in, but not to prevent you from putting it in. So its position when installing the graphics card can be irrelevant.

There are some boards where you have to push it away from the slot to install the card. And there are some where you can just install it without touching the clip.

If you want to try opening it now before you get your GPU, you can. It shouldn't hurt anything.
