Just ordered New Parts but... I have a question

Go to solution Solved by 8tg,

Over 100 watts of general headroom is fine. It’s a pretty rare scenario to fully tap out every component at once which is the worst case scenario the calculators use.

Especially when gaming on an 18c/36t Xeon where I highly doubt you’d be using more than 8 threads at a time anyway.

I just ordered a Xeon e5-2699 V3

machinist motherboard

and 32gb DDR4 ram

but..

with my current Gpu it takes 518W and I have a 650w psu Will that be Enough headroom?

(I don't currently have the money for a New psu and yes I do have Experience with Xeons for gaming)

What GPU do you have?

And since 518 is less than 650...

probably enough headroom, the 780ti draws 250W and recommended PSU is 600W for it

do you know what's your PSU model?

Cut that in half if you are buying used as a used rm850x or equivalent is around the 40-60€ mark

Also you got scammed unless you need those 18 cores for productivity

even a used 3600(x) that you can find for ~50€ + a used midranger b3/450 like the gaming plus/tomahawk also for ~50€ will annihilate this xeon in gaming whilst drawing less power and having an upgrade path all the way to a 5800x3d (~200-250€ used) or a 5950x (probs not worth buying unless <300€), and it wont have issues with running even 128gb of ddr4 at 3600-3800 if you really need that much ram

Welp if you cant return atleast make sure to turbo unlock mod for 3.6ghz on all 18 cores

I do need it and it is very cheap since it's 180 for the entire upgrade I can't afford more it also includes cooler and Thermal paste

It’s a bit over budget but it could be a good idea. Check some reviews first
