Best High capacity Usb drive solotion?

Drvulcanlord

I want a high capacity usb thumb drive for different things, ventoy, portable software, ect and was wondering about what I should get. I have looked into the SilverStone SST-MS09 here but if yall have any other ideas they would be welcome.

My Main rig: i7-4790, Asus z97c, Radeon HD 7850 (2gig), Fractal Design Focus G.

My Laptops: Dell xps 12 flip screen, Dell Latitude e5410, MacBook 2009, and a Hp 2000

That is just an enclosure. Not an actual drive. You would also need to buy an M.2 Sata SSD of whatever size you want to put into it. If you are looking for just a standard high capacity flash drive, 1TB is currently the highest capacity. There are also 512GB and 256GB which are fairly inexpensive.

It's not a thumb drive, it's Nvme to USB adapter

But it's ok for this, you just have to add a NVme 🙂

There's also nvme enclosures that use usb c that will be a lot faster than the one you listed.

I know its an nvme enclose, I was asking if there was any other enclosers in the form factor of the one I listed, I like the usb stick form factor.

The one you have linked in the OP is not Nvme compatible. It is M.2 Sata only.

If you are just looking for an Nvme enclosure in a smaller form factor, I have used this one for quite a while and never had an issue. It's also actually Nvme unlike the one you have linked in your OP.

But what do you need exactly ?

Thumbdrive or external drive or NVme enclosure ?

What capacity do you need ?

What performance do you expect, what USB bandwidth do you have (NVme are often slowed by USB speed) ?

A high ish capacity usb, I just really liked the form factor of the sedate one. Speed dosent have to be super fast, sata speed is probably fine to be honest.

Then get some external SSD, I got a Crucial X8 that's fine (2TB), 1GB/Sec on USB-C

Yeah that’s probably the route I’ll go.

OK, but that's a QLC based one, and it can't sustain even sata write speeds.

Go for at least a TLC based Crucial X9, or samsung T7.
Of course, that still won't sustain max speed, or SATA speeds, but will be faster than X8
Ps. don't go for SanDisk, they die...
