4K Upgrade in 2024

Hey there,

Just joined! Wondering what best  budget orientated 4k monitor with OLED and 144hz at least is? I know there's none that are cheap. What's a good value one though? Also 27 inch or 32 inch? I use my PC as a living room/ normal PC set up so the 32 inch is tempting. Just wondering what specs I need to get like 80fps at 4k on single player games and 144 hz on multiplayer less GPU intense games. Thanks for any suggestions

that depends on your preference

it would depend on the games but if they're more modern then 80fps at 4k is going to require pretty much top end specs.

A 4090 and a 7950X3D.

And don't expect to reach those performance figures on all games with those specs.

With 4K gaming, you really want to get the most GPU you can afford. To do at least 144fps in multiplayer games would require a decent, though not necessarily top-end CPU.

So in order to meaningfully answer this, we'd need to have some idea of your budget. If the answer is "I just want the best at the best price" then an RTX 4090 paired with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and 32GB of DDR5-6000CL30 memory on a B650 board is probably the cheapest option to give a solid 4K gaming experience, and should be able to play any game (barring horrible optimization like City Skylines 2) at 80fps, and all multiplayer games at well over 144fps using competitive settings.

No, 7800X3D is better for gaming.

Also, for 4k CPU if far less relevant so 7600X could be just fine but in a way if you're already spending $1.5k for a GPU alone , the 3D CPU isn't that far of a stretch anymore.

I have a 1080p 27'' monitor. I wish it was bigger. I'm going 32'' next. If I solely played singleplayer games I might even go 40'' but since I still play a lot of esports games cause of friends it's way too big.

Good 4k gaming monitors I'd say average below $800. FYI everyone is waiting for new 4k OLED 240hz monitors coming later this year around $1200-$1800, including me. So hyped.

I think 32" 4K is the sweet spot for pixel density/size. 27" is better suited for 1440p.

Regarding OLEDs, 4K and high refresh rate, there's a ton that's being shown at CES but there's not many option otherwise. I'm tempted to replace my Neo G8, being a 4K 240Hz QLED, with an OLED 360/480Hz model.

If you had to pick now, the soon to be released RTX 4080 Super should be a solid choice. RTX 4090 being the best option, but its prohibitedly expensive right now, unless you can actually find one for MSRP that isn't a scam.

99.9% of games, the few new exceptions are exceptions. Otherwise, 4K ultra ray tracing +60 fps is possible, every other game being able to utilize the high refresh rate. Although the 7800x3D or 14900k would be better for most people.

14900k is likely the 'best' AAA 4K CPU, but I'd still go with a 7800x3D for every other game and for the lower power consumption.

I will go for 1440p for 27” as it reduce load of GPU and still maintaining crispy sharp output.

For 32”, I would recommended go for 4K.

good value one though

Prepare for around USD 1k as base.

Get RTX 4090 or RX 7900XTX, but still don’t expect all games will give you this fps when set maximum image quality.

The big problem with this is that it's not crispy or sharp by any means.

On desktop yeah 1440p looks crispy sharp, in games however, especially in the newest ones it gets destroyed by TAA and looks like you need literal glasses or something.

I really wish it were the case that 1440p is sharp and crispy both in desktop and in games, in RDR2 for example the destruction to image quality is...extensive, to say the least.

Only fix I found was pure bruteforce with 4K resolution.

For the newest games, dont use TAA, use DLAA and if thats not sharp enough for you you can use SR to do SSAA (as in SR to 4k, downscale to 1440p)

For new games, used DLAA, you will get freaking awesome AA.
