pcie bifurcation 8x4x4 for NAS

i have a gigabyte z390 ud that supports 8x4x4 does that mean the whole electrical 16x is split to 8x4x4 i want to plug in a Quad NVMe PCIe Adapter but will it show all four drives or just 3

OR

the MB has two extra 4x pcie slots i assume those go thru the PCH

You aren't using a gpu? If not, then you will show three SSD's on the card. You need 4x4x4x4 to get all slots working. (on a card with a plx chip on it)

With x8x4x4 you can use 3 m.2 drives max on those adapters.

The extra x4 slots go through the chipset.
