You can't run steam games from a NAS.

Maybe there's information missing?

What OS is on the NAS, what EXACTLY are you trying to do?

  1. Add the NAS volume as a network drive in My Computer and assign the volume a drive letter.
  2. Add the new volume to steam as a game install location
    • Go to Steam Settings and find the Storage page
    • From the drop down options select Add Drive.
    • Select the network drive as the drive to add
  3. When installing the game in Steam install it to that location
  4. Launch the game from Steam.

To move an existing game to the new folder right click the game in the library list and select properties. From the Installed Files tab select Move Install Folder and select the NAS drive as the new install location.

Do you have permission to access the network drive? If you go to My Computer can you browse the files on the NAS volume?

running software directly from a network share is very touchy, i'd recommend to just not.

You can, but it's not the best way to do things for many reasons.

What you see basically. For some games it might work and others not. Might work but be slow in some cases.

The easy and most likely to not cause issues way is iscsi. To steam, it just appears as a local drive.
