How much wattage for high-end PC? Is 80+ gold bad? Should i trust cybernetics rating more?

SampledFutureFunk_

How much wattage for a rtx 4090, ryzen 9 7950x, 2 nvme ssds and 2 sata ssds?

I need an ATX 3.0 compatible PSU for the components listed above. Would be nice if any of you guys could help med pick a good one.

I also dont understand if 80+ gold is bad or not? i hear a lot of different opinions on this. Some say gold is worthless while others say dont care about 80+ rating. What about cybernetings rating?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

Rating honestly means very little. It only identifies how much AC it converts to DC. The % difference is the expected amount of power loss.

For that system, I would suggest at least a quality 1000-1200w PSU to be sufficient. 4090s can draw up to 600w and the 7950x is around 200-250w.

If you can't trust Cybenetics you can't trust anything.

As said, get a 1000 - 1200w. 80 Plus rating doesn't matter.

80+ ratings are a measurement of the units efficiency. On a scale of white, bronze, silver, gold, platinum and titanium. The further on that scale, the more efficient.

And that measurement has been picked up as a broad indicator of a generally decent power supply, as if a psu can get an 80+ gold rating, it’s using decent enough components and a somewhat modern design. But you can still get that rating with what’s otherwise a pretty mediocre psu and it’s not good to rely on that alone.

For that hardware configuration you’d want 1000w or higher, ideally 1200w for excessive headroom as noted by skiiwee

On the low end of that, the Corsair RM1200e or the bequiet pure power 12 are decent budget choices for this, but if you have a 7950x and a 4090… why even look at a budget choice.
In the middle would be things like the HX1200i or an FSP Hydro G Pro, or thermaltakes toughpower GF3.

Above that, Corsair AX series, FSP HPT2, seasonic prime TX, asus rog Thor, etc
