I’m Finally Excited About VR Again! - Bigscreen Beyond Review

AdamFromLTT

PS VR2? I don’t want to use a Playstation 5. Valve Index? Too Big. Meta Quest 3? I don’t want to deal with Mark Zuckerberg's wackiness. Thankfully, a new headset to end all headsets has reared its tiny little head. The Bigscreen Beyond is an incredible headset with 2 micro-OLED displays, pancake lenses in the tiniest package we’ve yet seen.

Why is there a swastika at 12:38

As for the headset, looks interesting despite all the drawbacks. It does feel like a first generation product of its type though.

It was honestly what I saw when this popped up.

Yes, it does. I have a few VR headsets, both PS versions and the Index. The PSVR2 is excellent for the price and in many ways the best sub £1k headset. This new device trumps it on technology by quite a way. It just has too many quirks. The 3D printed face mount looks like a recipe for disaster unless cleaned every use, a luxury abode for bacteria and fungi. I am sure the wearers face needs washing quite soon after an energetic session too.

I think we are getting closer to everyday portable VR glasses. I think sooner than thirty years at this pace.

We need a 1000X improvement in compute/power

A 100X improvement compute/cost

We need a 10X improvement in the batteries across all metrics

A 10X improvement in volume and weight

The resolution and frame rate are close enough

Sensors are close enough

A 10X improvement in latency, mostly achieved by faster and closer compute

Lenses are close enough, a 2X improvement in FoV and a 2X improvement in distorsion
A 100X improvement in price/resolution of the screen and lenses

This should get a 100$ to 1000$ device that you can wear all day and do useful VR/AR

You can skip some improvement in compute density and power if you get a 100X improvement in LTE bandwidth and a 10X improvement in LTE latency

Would like to find out more about the story behind this team.  They don't even have a wikipedia page.

I know that this product is still very new... but does anybody know how well this product works with a thunderbolt 4 to dp adapter or hdmi to dp adapter because I would like to hook it up to my laptop to use for watching movies in hotel rooms. Thanks in advance for any info
