Where the 💥 are the Threadripper 7000 motherboards?

Managed to get one of the new Threadripper Pro CPUs and have it in-hand but it's useless without a motherboard. No retailer anywhere in the world seems to have any TRX50 or WRX90 boards.

NewEgg just put two TRX50 boards up on their site for pre-order but they are not stocked. There are no Pro (WRX90) boards, not even for pre-order, like at all. I need the memory support and extra pcie lanes of WRX90 so I'm sitting here wringing my hands.

How do you release a CPU without any motherboards?

Well, that's just the nature of having companies other than yourself make the boards. All the good will in the world won't make board magically appear if manufacturers don't have them ready to ship.

Back in the day, we used to get reference motherboards from chip makers but those days are long gone

Companies who jumped first to use new Threadripper likely have direct phone numbers to associates in those motherboard makers. They get bespoke orders than buying from middlemen like a retailer, so their priorities would be to fulfil direct orders, once those are though, then sell to general retail market.

My best bet would be to try and get in touch with those motherboard makes individually and ask if you can place an order from them directly. I wouldn't have a clue how that works but that's my assumption looking from the outside in.

for wrx90 you might have a better chance finding early stuff at more b2b oriented places.

as for where the boards are in general... if i have to guess, a few days behind the party?

I imagine Threadripper has a very low volume, so board partners might wait for the demand before mass-printing the board.
