I brought a pc a while ago from HP, and recently i have run into issues with it loading my profile, and it is getting annoyingly slow booting up. I was wondering is there any way to get an SSD and just transfer the OS onto it and keep using the HDD that came with it for mass storage. Cheers.

If it is getting slower that does not mean the problem is your drive. You should probably do a fresh install. Moving all those files from the OS to an SSD will still slow it down.

Samsung sells a kit with their SSD's that you can use to transfer all of the files you need onto the SSD.

But a fresh install will cost more than an SSD?

Yes.

But i would recommend a clean install.

1. you will need to find the OS license key, write it down somewhere.

2. You need to make an installation CD/DVD (what ever the heck).

2.5 You can find ISO's for the actual installers online, hosted by Microsoft themselves, burn that on to the CD.

3. SSD goes in, you install windows using the key you extracted, then just copy the files you want from the HDD (Re-install the programs).

This is how i did it, you will need to activate the key over phone (free, usually).

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Clean install means re-installing windows. IT's the best way to clean out your system and get it running as new.

Oh you have to boot your PC off of a windows install/recovery disk or USB drive. You then just follow the instructions keeping in mind that your hard drive gets totally formatted (which is the point and guarantees perfect performance from the OS) so backups need to be made for important files.
