MalwareBytes has a free version that works really well.

Every windows install has Windows Defender that is enabled by default. If that doesnt work for you, you can try Malwarebytes.

If you have Windows 10/11 Pro, you can temporarily increase the detection sensitivity using GPO but at the expense of potential false positives. [configure block at first sight] [attack surface reduction]

the real advantage tho is that MWB can run alongside windows defender, which most AVs cannot... two eyes see more than one.

Windows defender is disabled when another real time AV is detected.  Two eyes have more load than one

wrong.  thats what im saying: MWB doesn't disable defender... running this combo since a decade now, no issues.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Wrong. been running Free version of MWB over a decade as well. Since it doesn’t offer Realtime AV, defender continues to chug along.

again that's what im saying lol.

 

plus you're still wrong because even the free month from the trial version,  which has "real time protection" doesn't disable defender. any other AV does though.  they wanna be the only horse in the race!

You are wrong. Since 2020 MVB is registered as an AV in Windows Security. If you are using the premium version, which in turn results in Windows defender being turned off. Trial is not the free version.

Every AV does because it is a Microsoft feature, previously it was per app basis.

the curse of AV in earlier times was..... two running at once.. usually degrading system to a standstill...
