The limitations of gaming mice

Jet_Mouse

I play this game called osu, and most people use a tablet, but I use a mouse. Tablets record positional input, but mice only record velocity, so if the measurement is off by a little bit, it'll add up over time. Plus, I feel like if the mouse rotates a little bit in your hand, that'll mess up the position too.

In osu, I've wanted to get into this mod called no-scope where your cursor turns invisible until you miss a note. That means I won't be able to check the cursor's position to make adjustments. Does anyone know if modern gaming mice are accurate enough that you could play through an entire song like that? The specific mouse I'm using is the Razer Viper 8k.

I recorded this video to show what I mean, I probably should have picked an easier song though. Also, I use a very high sensitivity: 3200dpi on 1080p.

Using mouse is based. I think you meant absolute vs relative position. And yeah why wouldn't a mouse be accurate, especially a good modern ones. People play fps games competitively where it's even more important. I don't get some saying mouse drifts away, it's a bad mouse then with crap sensor as a good one won't have any acceleration, but move exactly where you moved it. I'd expect you know about it, but disabling Windows "enhance pointer precission" in mouse settings is a must. That mouse is more than fine. As for polling rate like 8kHz for Osu that's another thing, one it depends from system if it's fast enough for it, game having proper support as it's still rather a new thing. Otherwise can cause issues. For 1080p I'd use 1600dpi though. Also depending on sense can try different mousepads maybe.

Bruh, being able to edit this is broken

Yeah. I don't think I'll be getting a tablet for osu, at least until they make 8000hz polling rate tablets. I measured my latency to be a little over 5ms, and it would probably be double that with a tablet. As for enhanced pointer precision, using KDE on Debian 12, I don't think it's even possible to have an acceleration curve in osu lazer when using the 'raw input' setting in osu lazer, unlike in Windows.

Anyways, bezza is definitely right, and it's not like I have a bad mouse. I still have my doubts, but I'll see how it goes.
