Underwater exploration in games.

emothxughts

Playing through the recently released Fontaine region in Genshin Impact, and it got me thinking, what other games out there has extensive content that takes place underwater? Two more examples I can say off the top of my head are No Man's Sky and the Bioshock series (Infinite takes place in the sky, but its DLCs are underwater).

Subnautica aside, a more unique take on underwater exploration is In Still Waters, where the perspective is entirely from a computer system. It's not for everyone, and I admit that I stopped playing after a few hours because it was too abstract for me and became a bit dull for my tastes, but it is neat in its own way.

Quote

Play as an Artificial Intelligence guiding a stranded xenobiologist through a beautiful and mysterious alien ocean. A non-violent sci-fi story, enter a world of wonder, fear and vulnerability, unraveling the history and ecology of an impossible planet.

YES.

The closest I came was a second play through in VR. It's like it was made for it. I can never pick a true favorite, but this has to be in my top 5 games of all time.

I extremely highly recommend this game. I got it only 3 or 4 days ago and have about 22 hours in it. Its much more relaxing and casual than other games. There is a bit of "fighting" but its nothing to bad at at all and even the boss battles are really nothing hard. It seems like an awesome way to get someone into a bit more complicated games, while still being a lot of fun for a sweaty neckbeard like me to still love. I will warn you, the game is so relaxing that you might fall asleep to the music and other sounds.

Good question. There hasn't really been that many I feel. I suppose because maybe depth perception is more difficult under water? Not sure.
