why a quadro? just get normal GTX and get more CUDA cores for faster processing, especially if this is not a rig that would be doing rendering 24/7

(and even then ive had many projects where the final render took up to a week and never was a 770 to blame for any faults)

Well I have a 780 under water already. Should I just use my rig?

Not very good for Maya Check out this table here to compare differnet workstation cards, there are a few gaming cards thrown in for comparison too

well if it has a capable CPU yeah. unless you render on the CPU tho, an i5 is plenty capable to run maya and the likes

Oh wow. The 780ti destroys everything. I'll just stick with my current rig then ;)

Exactly :) Workstation cards really should only go on workstation computers and only if the company is paying ;)

If you wanted more compute performance you could always get a Titan black instead, then keep one rig for gaming AND modelling

yes and this is an anomaly or BS numbers from tom's hardware (once again) the 780ti won't even have double point precision calculation, the quadro K6000 is a 12gb graphics card and will be running LAPS around the 780ti in maya an any 3D rendering soft.

THAT BEING SAID such a card worth well over 5000$ so YES just stick with the 780 you ALREADY HAVE...rest of the build is flawless i would have suggested the exact same thing, maybe 16gb of RAM though..and a 240GB SSD.

Light 3D modelling is in the realm of Quadro K2000... K4000 is too expensive for light usage.

That depends in compute heavy tasks the quadro will destoy the 780ti, for example here in solid works, but programs like Maya, and for light rendering tasks a Quadro is a very expensive thing to justify

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/specviewperf-12-workstation-graphics-benchmark,review-32929-17.html

But if a 780ti can still handle the task ok even if not the fastest its hard to justify a whole second PC with a 1500$ card if  the workload is only light.

Depends on the workload

that i have to agree with but the numbers shown in the first bench from Tom's are not from this world, no way a 780ti will outdo a fully enabled quadro K6000 GK110 GPU that has been cherry picked for being top of the line and paired with the highest quality GDDR5 12GB of VRAM in ANY situation, no way.

the titan did well?, I agree it will not out do a K6000, but its 1/3 the cost

well the K6000 is GK110 with unlocked double FP and ECC memory. of course it will be faster

OP...i just came to realise that the CPU you've picked DOES NOT OFFER HYPERTHREADING, consider to upgrade it to the xeon E3-1230v3 it won't cost much more but will process almost double the data cause it is hyperthreaded...

Strange here toms shows completely different results. Is this because the old version performs differently?

that ram is terrible, not heatsinked, 11 latency...terrible product that should not even exist

This is good RAM for the price:

Here op, revised build, much better, go with your 780 and this kit, if over budget go with 120gb SSD

and if still over budget put back the shitty PSU you selected in the first place it will get the job done:

I would go for a laptop to be honest.

It would be so much lighter than a full desktop with sepperate monitor.

he already has a monitor as stated in original post and did he mentionned having to carry the thing on his back all day long? WTF !

I would do the rendering and modeling by hand in a sketch book that way you won't need a computer...?! WTF WTF WTF
