3080TI v 4070TI

EthaanButler

I have a 3060TI, 13600kf, 32GB Kingston Fury DDR4

Im looking to upgrade the GPU, i want to be playing with good FPS in 1440p

I can either get the 3080ti now second hand with trading in my current GPU and a few other things, or hold out and get the 4070TI new because I can get it a little cheaper than retail through work.

Is this that big of a difference that its worth waiting a little longer and getting the 4070ti ?

I would grab the second hand 3080 ti, the difference really isn't that big.

My First PC
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
Cooler: Asus TUF Gaming LC240
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-f gaming
RAM: 4x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RS (3200 MHz, CL16)
Storage: 1tb Samsung 980 Pro
Graphics Card: Asus Dual RTX 2060 OC
Case: Deepcool Matrexx 50
Power Supply: Corsair RM650x
Headset: Razer Blackshark V2
Keyboard: Corsair K70 Pro Mini (Speed Silver switches)
Mouse: Razer Viper Mini
Only changes I have made is I sold the 2060 for $235 AUD and bought a Powercolor Red Devil 6700 XT for $400 second hand (it was barely used, think I scored a deal on Ebay with that).
I'm learning video editing and trying to get some cash as a high school student.
I like F1, my favourite team is Scuderia Ferrari and favourite driver is Charles Leclerc. Favourite track is Red Bull Ring in Austria.
Playing with a 1080p 60hz monitor right now, hoping to upgrade to a 1440p 144hz one soon.

Living in AU and that pisses me off since every event is late at night or early in the morning (almost every F1 race starts around 11 PM AEST time)

What frame rate are you aiming for? Both cards have similar performance at native resolution, so I'd save a few quid and go for the 3080 TI if you're talking 1440p 144fps.

If you're looking at 240fps, you'll really need DLSS + frame gen so go for the 4070 TI.

It might be worth considering the new 7800XT at this point , Its cheaper than the 4070 and faster in traditional rasterized games.

It is slower in ray traced games and lacks dlss but frame generation is confirmed as coming to AMD fairly soon.

The 4070Ti equals or beats the 3090Ti but at a much lower power draw. It also has DLSS3 and frame generation. Go for the newer card.

Id be happy if i could draw 1440p 144fps, high settings

In that case I'd say a used 3080 ti, unless you can get a really good deal on a 4070 ti.

I think for high refresh rate 1440p gaming you are probably looking at 4070 / 7800XT.

If you want a bit more power then a 4070ti and 7900XT are an option aswell.

Anything beyond that us probably not worth it.

I would note that the 7900XT is a good entry point to 4k gaming if you decide you want a 4k monitor in the future , 4070ti would be aswell if it had another 4GB of vram.

Can you at least give us an idea of the value you're paying or trading?

Asking us to guess what some items you're trading for a card is kind of BS.

Without knowing pricing, we can only say 4070ti is better, which you already know.

I can get the 3080ti use for £600.00 GBP and the 4070 TI for around £680.00 GBP

Id be trading in my 3060ti and some other bits i have HDDs ect Id be getting £450 In store credit which would go towards the 3080ti or £350 cash which id then save more on top for the 4070 TI

I didnt know the 4070 TI was better for 1440 hence why i create the post

If you check the Daniel Owen video 4070ti vs 3090 the 4070ti wins marginally by 0-10 percent at best and looses by a few percent in others. Both are 12gb Although not sure about the 80ti bus size.

I would personally take the 4070ti as it’s gona come with frame gen, there just no downside to getting the 4070ti plus you have warranty

And the power draw is much better.

there are second hand 3090’s for the price of the 4070ti tho and they have 24gb vram so that’s a good choice between 12gb extra vram vs frame gen

-13600kf

- 4000 32gb ram

-4070ti super duper
