arctic liquid freezer ii 360 ryzen 5900x

Hi,

PLEASE help me figure this out. I can't get this stupid cooler to hold proper temperatures on this cpu.
My room is about 19-20C, at idle it's about 41°C and as soon as you open a browser or anything it shoots up to 62C or more.

Pushing full AIDA64 stress test, it's instantly up to 77C and stays there. Cpu uses about 150W stock, fans at about 1700RPM

I wanted a quiet setup but it gets noisy quite easily. 1600RPM on fans or more.

Were my expectations to keep this CPU at 49C or around there under load with this gigantic cooler unrealistic?
Steve seems to have managed to do that in his video, I don't get it. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I just can't reproduce anything near 50C under load:

image.thumb.png.7dd6633d942e90685829b396d923fda1.png

I've reinstalled the AIO onto the cpu with new thermal paste a few times now, seems to spread out evenly and have cross tightened the screws to make sure.

Idle:

Load test with Aida - Keep in mind CASE WINDOW IS REMOVED:
image.thumb.png.eeae43fe0855b9dc2385a8829fa985e8.png

The setup is like this. There wasn't enough room inside the case for the fans+radiator, so the fans are mounted on top of the case chassis, and the radiator inside the case.
The fans then blow out the heat through the side vents at the top:

Water seems to be running -> pump working, can be felt when touching the hoses.

YES I have removed the plastic before installing the cooler.

its 50.9c +Ambient temps, in this case 21C so it would be 72c. Are you even attempting to match the voltages and such because i cant see anything mentioned about that.

So its a 6c Difference, which can be down to case, voltages, and a few other factors. Thats not that much of  a difference honestly.

Yes, those were unrealistic expectations. That 51C that GN has is delta T over ambient, or the difference between the running temp and room temp. It translates to 72C under full load, and that's with a very controlled voltsge and current draw.

Haven't touched voltages or anything. Oh didn't notice that part on the video.
So the cooler is acting as expected/normal for a cooler this size? During furmark cpu burn it's on 77C currently.

And it's kinda useless expectations, even at 77C you have plenty thermal headroom, just lower fan speed to get a quieter setup, you don't care if stress tests are at 85C, with gaming at 70C idle at 45C (that's my 5900X but got it to 180W 🙂 )...

Yeah, it's about as expected. It being a little hotter could be anything from higher room temp (it is the summer in the northern hemisphere after all, and not all of us have AC) to your chip has slightly worse solder, to you're at a higher power draw by default, to the motherboard's default fan curve is a bit less aggressive than what GN was running.

I found out what the slightly higher temps could be.
The cooler wasn't making ideal contact apparently. The temp changes are now less sudden and my IDLE is down to 40C
Load temp is around 73C with the same 1700RPM fan speeds.. So it helped a tiny bit 🤣

I had accidentally switched around the brackets and installed them wrong, apparently they're not symmetrical:

What do you guys use for ultra cool and quiet builds then when a gigantic water cooler like this isn't enough??????

Turn on eco mode, gaming performance won't really change, but power consumption would be only half or less

Cool and quiet are relative. Under 80 degrees Celsius under load is cool imo. As for quite you can easily adjust fan curve settings and the like to reduce noise.

I think you might have a larger misconception of the normal operating range and temp fluctuation behavior of these chips. Your results look completely normal for a stock (non-undervolted) 5900x. If you want a better look at how your CPU is performing, monitor all core clockspeed along with temp, one alone doesn't tell the whole story. Might even do a run of Cinebench R23 to see how it stacks up.

A good Thermalright air cooler that puts all of these AIOs to shame 😄

What temps are you getting with that? Is it even audible from outside the case?

Audible? There’s your problem. High performance and silence do not go hand in hand.

Holy moly you're really getting like 37C under load?

I just got home from work, I will shower up and run some stuff for you. I will hammer it with Linpack Xtreme.. you will see high temps, but you will also see this 105w CPU do 245w PPT. I will let it stretch its legs a bit, and I will run a little 3D as well. I will do all of this with my fans at full speed..

Lol that would be nice. For this CPU to hit 90 I really have to pound on it. I am way above stock. Stock is weak 😄

Hmm nice, how do you get your cpu to clock up to 5150Mhz? Im Stuck at 4.950MhZ with max 77°C
