i usually disconnect the pc physicaly from internet.. pull out the plug as it checks windowsupdate online automaticaly.. unless you do as described above.. .... then install nvidia driver. then i can connect it to internet again

or turn off wifi..

I need it to stop doing this shit because I'm tired of removing the GPU everytime from the motherboard to be able to boot into safe mode and ddu the f drivers.

is that card discontinued on the later drivers .. what driver version does it work with?

edit to avoid it do this:

Open Start. Search for gpedit and click the top result to open the Local Group Policy Editor. Double-click the “Do not include driver with Windows Update” option. Check the Enabled option.

Maybe you are not in the position of doing that... did you tried your GTX 560 in another computer with Windows 11?

Not English-speaking person, sorry, I'll make mistakes. If you're kind, maybe you'll be able to understand.

If you're really kind, you'll nicely point that out so I will learn more about write in good English.  🙂

I can't run the invidia driver installer because this stupid os installs the broken drivers before I can even open the folder with installers

Also there's a possibility of the GPU having mining vbios on it

Extremely doubtful, that card was never relevant for mining.

The latest driver for the GTX 500 series was released in March 2018, 5 and a half years ago. Nvidia ended driver support for the 500 series cards several years before Windows 11 was released. There's no official Windows 11 supported driver for the 500 series cards.

Maybe try Windows 10 instead? Is there any reason why you're trying to use Windows 11 on such old hardware?

I just took out this old GPU that was laying on my shelf for years and I want to use it as egpu for my laptop but I was unsure if it even works

The last time I tested it I concluded that it performed worse than igpu of i5 3470

But I used Linux and installed Nvidia drivers on and I ran Roblox in wine because I had nothing else to run

The fps was like 10-25% worse than the igpu so I just threw it on my shelf and forgot about it

But now when I got my new HP ProBook 450 g5 with i5 8250U I wanted to see if I could use this as an egpu for it

Try live booting a Linux OS off a USB drive if you just want to check if the card works. But using a 560ti as an eGPU is probably a waste of time.

The 560ti would perform better, but use 20 times as much power. Not really worth it.

So is Windows updating drivers on your laptop or on the PC?  Are you currently trying to use it as an eGPU or is it still in the PC?

Just get it in safemode and do what @Robchil said. Keep it disconnected from the internet whilst doing so, then reboot, install your driver and then connect it. It should NOT get a driver.

I did this and now I'm checking vbios version and seeing if I can install Nvidia drivers

Gpuz says that this is an GTX 580 with vbios version 70.10.49.00.03 which matches with a completely different card: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/114426/msi-gtx580-1536-111011

But the GPU I have is an msi GTX 560 ti twin frozr 2 aka this:

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/msi-gtx-560-ti-twin-frozr-ii-oc.b5888

Well, you did say it may have been mined.  Maybe they swapped BIOS.

May be time to buy a real GPU and stop jury rigging things.

After disabling bios protection of the GPU to flash the correct vbios, GPU stops rendering new frames and instead decides to display the latest frame even after the PC is shutting down and it will only stop when power is cut to it.

It was laying on my shelf for 3 years, it's much older than 3 years. The only time I used it is when I found it on my attic and I wanted to see how it performs.

Well you're seeing it performs very badly.

I am confused.  If you go it 3 years ago, and immediately put it in the attic?  And you're just now trying it out?

So did you perhaps acquire or buy a run down mining card that someone got rid of cuz it wasn't working wel?
