My hard drive is not showing up in Windows but it's detected in BIOS??

So today I encountered a problem with my PC, I decided to turn it on and I noticed that one of my drives were missing. I checked File Explorer, Disk Management, Device Manager, I don't see my drive at all. Weirdly enough, when I try to look at my BIOS, I see the drive is there and detected. Same as Intel Rapid Storage Technology app, it detected the drive. It's an old Seagate 500GB drive with quite a lot of important stuff and I haven't backed it up in a while. I've tried swapping SATA cables & ports and it's still not detected by Windows. The other 2 drives that I got are perfectly fine so I'm not sure what's wrong. Yesterday was fine too, I was able to use my PC normally and I didn't hear anything bad coming from the drive. It did make a few clicks when I boot it up so maybe it's dying? Anyone can help figuring this out? Thanks!

When you say Windows doesn't recognize it, do you mean within file explorer as a mounted drive, or it doesn't even show up in disk management? If only the former, it's possible the partition table is corrupt and might be recoverable.

It doesn't show up in disk management too.

Have you checked Storage Spaces?

The best test you can do is plugging your drive into another computer to see if it is recognized. If it is, do a backup right away.

If it isn't recognized, you may have a physical problem with your drive.

If you need data recovery, I rcommend you get a quote from Rossmann Repair Group. The staff is very knowledgeable and Louis Rossmann is one hell of a youtuber 🙂

No, I just checked it and it didn't show anything. Also an update: I tried replugging again and boot the system in Safe Mode, now I can see it in File Explorer but it only says Local data with no available space, like the bottom is blank. I tried looking in disk management and I see that this drive now have 500GB of RAW healthly partition?

I tried to plug it in to my old PC and it recognize it in the BIOS but once again it doesn't show up in Windows. It did show a Local disk (:D) with blank space where usually the available space is but I can't open it. I found out that the drive now have RAW partition in another reply.

I have had lots of luck using the ol' throw-the-hard-drive-in-the-freezer trick, though I'm not sure I recommend it in your case. If it's data that would be nice to keep but isn't critical, it could be worth a shot to try and do it yourself. If we're talking about data that you absolutely cannot lose, then stopping where you are and sending it for data recovery may be a better option.

You could try to use a file/partition recovery program, but if the damage is the result of a failing a drive (and not just a one-off partition corruption) then you might end up doing more harm than good.

Totally agree. If this is really really really important data, stop playing with the drive and hire a data recovery service.
