cam't upgrade to win11 from win10

i have no option to upgrade from win10 to win11.

Does anyone know why?

(vin10 is activated and it says that my pc supports win11 pc spec r5 r5 3600 gtx1070ti 2x8 3200 16gb cl16 biostar b450mhp)

Did you go into Windows Update and see where Win 11 is available?

 

Or did you run the PC Health Check thing and it cleared you for Win11?

 

Both ways have a link to download and upgrade to Win11.

I checked with that and I didn't see anywhere that it says download win 11

Use this as an opportunity to not upgrade, and instead do the much clean and less problematic wipe and full install from scratch.

Often enough less experienced users opting to *upgrade* instead of clean install 11 on older, potentially messy installs of 10 just end up having more trouble than they otherwise should have. 

 

A clean install of 11 is always preferred if you feel you want it.

I have win 10 on the ssd, will it just delete windows 10 and all the files or do I have to format the ssd myself

It'll format the partition to which you install it, so if that's the whole drive, then that wipes.

 

Just Delete Partitions on those first couple screens, then hit Next.

the installation is the same as on the good old win 7

i strongly recommend against "upgrading" to windows 11, because there is a "non-zero" chance of OS-breaking problems, so you should make preparations and backups for such case either way.. and then you may as well just install fresh while you're at it.

 

as for what this "non-zero" chance is... from my experience, it is quite high. just within my direct surroundings i've seen several bricked OS'es after an upgrade, on maybe a few douzen systems.

 

IMO the only reason to in-place upgrade to a newer version of windows, is if you have absolutely no way of clean installing, or have something about your OS that you cannot easily restore into a fresh install. (do note that it's not a given that "everything" comes with you trough an upgrade. essentially assume that all configured settings are gone, for a start.)

 

having that said, to the question at hand.

use whatever upgrade checker tool microsoft uses these days to see if you're compatible for the upgrade, that's likely to have either an "upgrade now" button or a list of things that are wrong.

 

if i'd have to hazard a guess, if all else is good, perhaps it cant allocate the necessary space to do the upgrade.

Just download the exe and run it. You can only do an upgrade install that way, but it will work without anything else.
