What are the uses of an ethereum domine?

Today a coworker was pitching me the idea of the ethereum domines "because they are so cool, and they are the future". But i dont understand the emotion, arent just like a kind of status symbol just to show arround? or i am missing something?

Yeah, basically that, and the "fad" has kinda gone away already... But basically everything around crypto depends on hype, and people taking part in it have direct interest in getting others to join to hopefully earn money.

Thats what i thought, but still can wrap my mind arround the fact that people pay like 50k for pepe.eth or 20k for lttstore.eth, seems crazy to me for something thats not even that useful or prestigious.
