I was thinking of getting 2 120gb ssd to make them in raid 0. Do you guys have any suggestions of what ssd's are good?

Samsung 840 evo, at the moment I see not reason to buy anything else

also dont put anything critical on there, or make sure it is backed up

I would also consider some means of backing up those SSDs, In RAID 0, if one drive fails, you lose everything. Also Samsung 840 EVOs are the best all around SSDs at the moment, and Intel drives are the best for reliability.

When the evo's were designed they didnt have raid in mind (for good reason) so if your looking dor a budget ssd to raid check the crucial m500 or m550.

Seems ok from reviews

Why werent the designed for raid?

I have 2 840 Evos in RAID. I just installed windows onto it literally 15 minutes ago.

Left is a single 840 EVO, right is the RAID0. You can definitely feel the difference between a single SSD and two. Im using a 64K stripe size, but some people recommend using 128K to get faster sequential read speeds for games and things.

I would probably get a single bigger SSD. You should get similar performance and your data will be safer :)

Also look at the crucial m500

Can you link me to the single SSD that can give over 1GB/s for around the same price?

Samsung 840 Evo, but Raid0 isn't safe mate

RAID0 is safe as long as he backs up his data, which he should be doing anyway. I have used RAID0 for years and never had it fail.

if i remember right there was a problem with TRIM support when using raid0...

TRIM has worked on the Intel onboard RAID controller since Z77

I would also consider some means of backing up those SSDs, In RAID 0, if one drive fails, you lose everything. Also Samsung 840 EVOs are the best all around SSDs at the moment, and Intel drives are the best for reliability.

Just like when you use a single SSD.

Yah i know, but it's Raid0, and unless you're doing nightly Backups, you can't have a peace of mind, right, after all Raid0 out performs any other Config, but Coasts Safety

Back in the day when we used mechanicals for such speedy transfers! I used to do two backups a week, and that was quite fine for the most part.

Having the 128-256GB backup onto another mechanical was fast and easy to set up and once setup, did its thing automatically (usually between overnight & mornings)

Plus if your rockin Raid0, you'd have enough pre-thought (or should) to set aside a drive or two anyway for small incremental backups.

Or just plain and simple, you don't care about your data.

If your willing to take the plunge, realize taking the plunge requires certain measures to "ease ones headaches" when something wrong does happen. <- Just like ANY other device.

I personally don't use Raid0 anymore, but the speed is there once its setup if I needed it.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

well, just so you can make sure i agree, i my self use Raid0, and i don't Backup, i did it twice or 3Times when my Rig was in it's Start Up Days and than i Stopped, i'm Gaming On the Edge with my heart next to my B%@~s Hoping nothing Goes wrong, plus i have this Device That absorbs Powersurges and Gives me the Chance to shut down my PC Properly, but it's still a Gamble

Its a small risk, and one that MANY people are willing to risk.

Really depends (again) on how much people value their data.

Games can be easily re-downloaded (Legit or not) and so can almost everything else (in due time)

But what about the irreplaceable personal stuff you have on there, surely I cannot be the only one who stores nothing personal permanently on my main rig.

Its not about disliking the rebuild either, I do & I live for that stuff, while a nuisance (fair enough) it's still a learning experience when you've done something wrong or its gone kapoot.

Said it before, will say it again :)

I also RAID0 my Intel 520 SSDs, and yes TRIM does work. I have had them setup like this for over a year now and have had zero problems with them at all.

I still don't keep anything super important on the drive that isn't backed up(everything important is on a network drive or on bittorrent sync). And i do nightly backups to my NAS, just to be sure.

I had 2x Samsung 840 Pro 128gb SSDs in RAID 0 - very fast. But a PITA when I had to flash my bios, forgot to set to RAID when I re-booted, and then had to re-install windows. Just too much of a PITA.

So I ended up buying a single 256gb 840 pro, and in real world talk, I don't notice any different. Fast is fast  :D

And I think a single 256 is faster than the single 128 FWIW, but still not as fast as RAID0 obviously.
