Optimal price range for a case?

minervx

It still seems like $75-100 is the sweetspot.  There are $100 cases with great aesthetics, build quality and airflow.  So while spending $125-150+ on a case gives you more options, whether the more expensive cases look better is subjective.

I understand there are a portion of people who only care about functionality and not aesthetics.  But many of the cases at the $50-60 either lack airflow and/or lack fans.  And I think increasing a budget from $50-60 to $70-80 would offer a noticeable improvement in options.

PC Build: R5-1600.  Scythe Mugen 5.  GTX 1060.  120 GB SSD.  1 TB HDD.  FDD Mini C.  8 GB RAM (3000 MHz).  Be Quiet Pure Wings 2.  Capstone-550.  Deepcool 350 RGB.

Peripherals: Qisan Magicforce (80%) w/ Gateron Blues.  Razer Naga Chroma.  Lenovo 24" 1440p IPS.  PS4 Controller.

Audio: Focusrite (Solo, 2nd), SM57, Triton Fethead, AKG c214, Sennheiser HD598's, ATH-M50x, AKG K240, Novation Launchkey

Wishlist: MP S-87, iPad, Yamaha HS5's, more storage

Thats for the west

Here in the east atleast in southeast asia we have many many great case options around the 30-40$ range thanks to china and local brands, these include 3-4 fans and most are mesh/perforated front so good airflow

Ive already seen the case options for the philipines, malaysia, and my country indonesia and this seems to be fairly consistent to have many solid options in the 30-40$ range to the point that spending anymore than 40$ is pretty stupid

I got a 23$ cyclops with 3 incl rainbow fans but ofc molex no argb and doesnt fit 120mm towers so went abit too cheap here but it still has pretty decent airflow, ill opt for a 30$ ish case next time

Yep, I'll echo this. In China we have plenty of dirt cheap options that don't suck. They may not be pretty, but they work well.

Any case can have good airflow if you have good fans 😄

You don't need to spend a ton on a case. Prices are pretty crazy though..

Yeah but some cases are so poorly designed you'd need to fill it with server fans to do so and wear ear protection while using it.

incorrect.  You can have all the fans in the world, and STILL have shit for cooling:

As for price?  Shipping a large metal box overseas is *expensive* and there's no way around that.

You haven't used strong fans before have you? I didn't say anything about stuffing every orifice with one.

bro, I was running deltas before it was a meme.
I know all about it.  And even then, an overpowered fan cannot overcome extra shit case design.

Well, we cant really argue about anything.  We don't know what case he went with.

The case would have to be extra shitty if Deltas couldn't do anything 😉

I think those days are gone now?

It can, if its powerful enough to shatter the tempered glass side panel. 😛

As always, LTT has you covered!

i saw, and even then it wasn't the best at cooling!

(I suspect that using the Noctua Passive cooler would have been better, due to larger air gaps needing less pressure to move through)

Would have been better if they cut the back out of the case. Even a well ventilated back like that case will restrict that fan.

I was surprised he left the fan installed.

Maybe a Torrent would have been better 🤔

Back when computing was fun a case had to hold parts and be cheap enough to fit into the budget, because it was a cardboard box otherwise.

...And it wasn't considered a good deal if it didn't come with a power supply.

LMAOOOO..... thats funny, i actually was laughing out loud. Those are the old Tigerdirect/Mwave/CompUSA etc... days. They'd squash ANY gutless wonder in a tan/gray box, with the psu on the friggin ceiling so the whole case was top heavy. Anything to beat the other guy by 10 bux!

That was a huge flaw, he said they removed the cooler fans so they wouldnt fry the motherboard yet clearly left the exhaust fan, why?

I was very surprised the side panel didn't explode into a billion pieces of deadly shrapnel though.

he is right

what you say is non sense. of course case matters. it is not only the importance of fans it is importance of how the case is made so to let the airflow going in the right way. there are many videos explaining it.
