The 5600G is better by a not insignificant margin. Whether it's worth the upgrade is a different story, I'd personally be of the mindset you should probably save up the extra to go 7600 instead, but the 5600G is the faster CPU of those two. Just know that the 5500 is the exact same chip as the 5600G, just without the iGPU, so if you have a dedicated GPU you might as well save money and get that instead (I still wouldn't upgrade to it though, just save for a bit longer and go AM5 or maybe for a 12600K instead)

just wondering what CPU is actually better for gaming the AMD Ryzen 5 5600G or the I5 9600k...... I currently have the i5 9600k and it works great but a buddy of mine keeps telling me to switch over to the Ryzen 5 5600g... I just wanna make sure it would be a big enough difference for me to go get a new motherboard and the cpu... (specs below)

CPU:I5 9600K

GPU:2060 SUPER

PS:EVGA 600W

MB: GIGABYTE B365M DS3H

RAM: 16 GB DDR4 3200 corsair vengence

For your current rig, upgrading the CPU won't help much, if at all, because the GPU now is nowhere near powerful enough to need a faster CPU.

If you upgrade your GPU to something like RTX 3070/RX 6700 XT and up, then 5600G would certainly be a decent upgrade.

As for the 5500 vs 5600G mentioned above, I would spend a bit more for the iGPU, because you never know when you'd need them. As someone who had to troubleshoot my own PC, I can honestly say that iGPU could be a life saver.
