Hello guys, i have a quick question that i need help with, namely my Friend is building a workstation PC, he will mostly do 3ds Max video rendering focused mostly around CPU rendering on Ryzen 9 7950X and Gpu is gonna be 4070 Ti, no overclocking, full stock, for CPU cooler we went with Noctua NH-D15 as it is the beefiest option available here, and i am not a fan of AIO coolers as system will be rendering files almost constantly (close to 24/7).

My question is, what power supply is enough for this build?  I have my eyes on: Seasonic Focus GX-850 80 Plus Gold 850W, will that be enough?

Thanks in advance and best wishes!

Yeah that will be plenty 🙂 I run a 750w on 7700x - 32GB DDR5 and overclocked RTX 4080. Check the PSU Tier List for PSU's. For your system you should stay in the A tier.
The Focus GX 850w is A tier.

You can probably run a 4080 with a 850W like that so it won't be a problem at all.

Any A-teir power supply listed in the site posted by @Hinjima will do fine.

You can also check the Cybernetics report for the particular power supply you want to buy to see how it performs

Seasonic Focus GX-850 80 Plus Gold 850W

has had good results in reviews and is plenty powerful enough for the requirement and 24/7 use.

I believe it still comes with a 12 year warranty ?

here is a link to the last page of a 12 page test and review of the PSU

You may want to reconsider the aversion to an AIO. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-7950x-cooling-requirements-thermal-throttling/ presents some interesting data. From it one can conclude that running at full load near 24/7 will likely mean a very small performance loss using an NH-D15 but also a fairly loud system as the fans will have to run at 100%. Using a 420 or 360 AIO would offer a bit more performance likely at a lower noise level.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Wow, I am genuinely speechless you guys, thank you so much for your well-thought-out and insightful input, I did not expect that many responses, thank you very much, will definitely check the power supply review and rating list so that I may spot something else in case this unit is out of stock at the time of purchase and check how it stacks up, does anyone know if GPU comes with 16pin adapter as PSU might not be the newest revision that comes with 16pin native connector?

He is not interested in noise at all, it's gonna be rendering 24/7 so it should be a bit loud, and also, no Noctua fan can sound like old intel stock coolers so that's gonna be manageable.. 😄

Once again, thanks guys, you are lifesavers! ❤️❤️❤️

No problem! We are all here to help and I appreciate all the different inputs from everyone here.
The 4070ti will come with a 16pin to 2x8pin adapter cable in the box.  You can use the PSU's 2x8pin cables for that 🙂
I will send you video in DM on how I have my 4080 connector, it will be exactly the same for you but 1x8pin less ( 4080 is 16 to 3x8pin ).

Happy to help and sometimes we are also on the "asking side".

PSU will list what cables they come with on the product page / Box and Cybernetics's certificates also list what cables they have and wire guage (higher guage number meaning THINNER wire. Thinner wire can carry less current but potentially easier to bend around in the case)

A quicker way to check is you can look for keyword such as "ATX 3.0" / "PCIe 5.0" compatible. For example, Corsair's "RM850e" does not have a native 12VHPWR cable, while "RM850e ATX3.0" model does.

Most PSU makers also sell those native cables, such as Corsair, Seasonic, but local availability is not gurantteed. In the worst case you can grab a cable (or a set) from CableMod for most popular brands (Corsair/Asus/Seasonic etc.)

Or like @Hinjima mentioned, use the adapter included with GPUs.

(Funny that in the past GPU used to have Molex to PCIe adapters, now they include PCIe to 12VHPWR adapter)

Thanks for the Info, will definitely check the PSU box to determine if it's a revision that has native support, otherwise, we will just use the adapter included with gpu.
