Worth it to upgrade or build new?

This is my current rig.

For the most part it works pretty OK, but I do get some stuttering in games. I know the hardware really wasnt designed to run at 1440p but it does a decent job. Personally Id like to stick it out on this platform for maybe 2 or 3 more years if possible. If it were you what upgrades would you make to make things a little smoother. Probably the most demanding games I play is GTA 5, World War Z, just bought Diablo 4 and I know that in the future Baldurs Gate 3 and possibly GTA 6. I was also considering Resident Evil 4 as well.

I also have a few questions. Diablo 4 for example on both minimum and recommend requirements suggests a SSD. I know that now days more games are asking for an SSD. Are SATA SSD's going to be good for this at least for the foreseeable future or are M.2 drives going to be needed?

Playing the Diablo 4 beta I got a little stuttering. CPU usage was high so Im guessing that could be it, but I also noticed 83% of my 16 Gigs of ram being used, do you think 16 Gigs is going to be OK for the next few years?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I would upgrade the CPU to either a 5600x or better. Could always get a 5800x3d. I would also get a newer gpu that is more suited to what you play now. This would save you a good amount of money. It wouldn't be much more to get a 2x16 gb set of 3200mhz ram. This is far cheaper than completely building a new machine.

Upgrade the cpu and gpu. What country are you located and what is your budget?

Depending on your budget, I’d look at a small step on the CPU and a slightly higher one on the GPU. Something like a 3600x and a 6600xtish.
Sata SSDs are still perfectly fine for gaming. Don’t buy into the M.2 madness we all did. The price on M.2s has come down a whole lot, but the price of a 2.5 is still hard to compete with.
With you wanting to do just something for the next 2-3 years I’d honestly just wait on adding another m.2.
A 3600x can be had on eBay for $80 easily all day long. 6650xt s are going for $200 to $250 with occasional ones coming in cheaper.
I think for $300 it’d be hard to beat a small overall upgrade like that.

16 GB can still be just fine. If it was a new build I’d go with 32, but if you’ve got it and you’re not making it out, I don’t see it as a needed upgrade. That’s still going for about $80 on eBay so new might make more sense there. I am on mobile so it’s a bit of a pain to play in PCPP.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

That's such a small upgrade from a 2600 and a 5700.  Not worth the effort or the money IMO.

I edit the shit out of my posts.  Refresh before you respond.

I'd upgrade cpu to Ryzen 7 5700X, as Ryzen 7 5800x3D seems overkill for 60 fps and the 5700X is down to $193.

Or Ryzen 5 5600 for $136 is another great option, though the 5700X should easily last this console gen at 60 fps. The 5600 probably will too but it's 2C/4T short of what the console cpus are so it's not the virtual guarantee the 5700X would be.

RX 5700 is actually still enough for 1440p60 in RE4 but 3440x1440 might require some settings tweaks

EDIT: Crap, I see your monitor doesn't support FreeSync. That might make a gpu upgrade pretty desirable then if you want to play RE4.

So what Im getting out of this thread is a CPU upgrade is probably the best thing to do right now. If I decide to get Resident Evil 4, I then should maybe look in to a GPU upgrade as @SteveGrabowski0 suggested.

I think I'll look in to the 5700x and maybe a 2TB SATA SSD. The last SATA SSD I bought was a Samsung drive, I know they run a little more expensive. How are Western Digital drives? I see they are priced a bit more competitively.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Three go-to SSD's atm for price vs performance and yes the Evo Plus is still a gamer.

The issue is Im not replacing my M.2. My board has one slot and that drive is used for WIndows. I keep my games on a seperate drive. It needs to be a SATA based drive.

One last question I thought about today at work. Would a 5700X be ok with the stock CPU cooler that came with my 2600X?

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
