Keep in mind that I am sometimes wrong, so please correct me if you believe this is the case!

simply looks like at some point a little too much pressure was applied to the F12 key.

I am unfamiliar with the laptop but generally the keys have a flat surface that is very thin and the rigidity is created by a very small lip around the inside edge.

It might be possible to lift the key and check if that thin lip on the edge has simply buckled inwards or cracked.

So in less than amonth since getting this laptop I woke up to the F12 ley being like this? What did I do or what happened?

Forgot to mention (and it sounds ridiculous) but I turned off the laptop the night before and headed to bed. The next day after I can back from school I pressed the power button then spotted it. I didn't close the laptop lid so I don't think something was pressing on it.

it really looks melted but I powered the laptop off completely (or I guess not as I think I have fast boot enabled)

It's an Asus ROG Strix G15 (G513RC to be more specific).

Outwards as seen in the picture.

unless my eyes deceive me it is pressed inwards at the top center causing the outer edges to lift upwards. therefore the bulge is actually in not out.

the surface of the key if flat would be level.

If however that key has truly melted due to heat ?? then RMA as the source of heat has not vanished and right now only a key melted who knows what is next on the list of damage due to the source of heat.
