On the other hand, doesn't making a proprietary GPU fly in the face of the whole "open" aspect of Framework?

True but at least they’re offering upgrades for things like gpus, unlike normal laptop companies that have the gpu soldered

Wait until it actually happens. Because plenty of times companies have shipped a laptop using mxm and promised there will be upgrade kits, and then dropped the family. Recent big one I remember was Alienware.

Looking to buy GTX690, other multi-GPU cards, or single-slot graphics cards:

I wonder what Ryzen AI is and what it can be used for.

Windows 11 will have support for NPUs, starting with the first app to use it being MS Teams where background blurring, audio filtering, and enhancement is done. Think Nvidia Broadcast (aka, RTX Audio), but now you don't need a dGPU.

AMD stated the 7040 series will have up to 4 concurrent dedicated AI streams totaling 12 AI TOPS (trillion operations per second)

Intel Meteor Lake should also have NPU capabilities.
