So i got my second graphics card 2 days ago, i installed it got my new drivers everything worked fine. I turn my computer on the next day and my audi isnt working and i cannot figure out why.

Drivers reinstalled twice (from the disk that came with my mobo)

Tried the windows troubleshooter

checked my bios to make sure onboard audio was enabled

tried removing and reinstalling my new gpu

Tried reinstalling AMD catalyst

Tried restoring the computer back to a date when the audio was working....

In device manager it says "High definition audio controller has a problem" and when you trouble shoot it doesnt fix it...

Im out of ideas...

EDIT: Forgot to mention when i go to playback devices my Realtek speakers say "not plugged in" even though it is... if you hit properties on it thats the device that handle the auido jacks im plugged into so its not detecting it for some reason.. It also doesnt pick up the mic input..

Are you just using a 3.5mm jack into the stereo (green) output jack of the motherboard? No 5.1 or anything fancy like that? Also, are you using an HDMI cable at all?

This is what I think of Pre-Ordering video games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp98SH3vW2Y

Maybe try to download the drivers from the website instead of the disk?

I downloaded the ones from my MOBO website

Have you tried disabling GPUs audio? If you are using HDMI, try something else.

Right click on speaker icon on task bar -> playback devices. There select all those you aren't using, right click and disable. Mobos audio should be Realtek etc whatever your chip is. It could be that GPUs audio is trying to be default and conflicting with integrated.

Ah I've already tried that.... Thanks though when I get home I'll post a screener but basically it literally just says for the Realtek 2 channel audio which is what my speakers and headset run off of it says it's not plugged in... Which it is

Do other audio devices work, try plugging the 3.5mm into another port?

No none of them work it simply just doesn't detect it front or rear jacks

First thing I would check and see if the HD Audio connection on your motherboard is connected and not loose. You may have knocked it loose when installing the second graphics card.

You shouldn't need to re-install anything when adding a second card for Crossfire. It should just detect the R9-280X, and you'll have an option to enable Crossfire.
