SAMSUNG 870 QVO SATA III 2.5" SSD 8TB (MZ-77Q8T0B) I paid $544...Now $499 (USA_Amazon)

jmc111

I've been watching it at around $700 for a long time. Read of the SSD prices dropping 30%.

Checked on it and bought it at $544.

Just rechecked today and found $499, 62/TB.

If it gets near $50/TB I'll buy another one. (I've read so much on counterfeits tho I do worry)

I would put a link but the last time I did that for a Youtube on how to set up VMAF they were not happy here.

You paid $544 for a QLC storage drive? Yes, QLC NAND can pack a whole lot more data than other types, but QLC drives take a big hit on drive performance. This is especially true when the cache runs out during large file transfers (40 GB or higher). What this means is that when this happens, the drive’s after-cache write performance degrades to an average of 172 MBps. Which is actually below that of a 7200 RPM HDD!

For just 24% of the cost I'd have went with this for just $133 without hesitation. I love my Toshiba HDD's.

My use is as a storage/video viewing drive.

My video files are about to go over the 4TB SSD they are on.

8TB is the next level and speed is of no importance.

(outside of the one time pain of copying 4TB onto it)

Don't want to be juggling SSDs when watching movies

at a friends house.

Thanks for your thoughts.

You can buy Samsung PM893 7.68 TB drives new for $680 : https://www.ebay.com/itm/284673880356

3.84 TB drives new for $320 : https://www.ebay.com/itm/284390097507

Datacenter SSD with something like 15,000 TB of writes .. .compared to what, maybe 2000-3000 TB for the QVO drive.

Downside is iffy warranty...

PM863a is $265 ... older model with 3 years warranty (vs 5 for the above model) and only around 5466 TB endurance for  the 3.84 TB model : https://www.ebay.com/itm/284525738194
