Front USB 2.0 Ports Not Working

Hello.

Last week I built a PC but I am having issues with the front USB 2.0 port.

When I have the front USB 2.0 header plugged in, none of the front USB ports work and if I turn the PC on while something is plugged in, it fails to start up the PC and just takes me to a black screen with a white line at the top left.

If I don't plug in the front USB 2.0 header, the USB 3.0 ports work fine but now of course the USB 2.0 port don't work.

I am using the GIGABYTE B450M DS3H WIFI motherboard.

I have tried reaching out to gigabyte but their live chat times are horrible and I have been awaiting a response in my ticket for a week now.

Any one know what the problem could be?

probably a short somewhere. check that the cable and the plug are fully clean. Alse the is a small motherboard where the front panel connectors are, could be a short there too.

if nothing helps, you can try a sata powered usb 2 connector thingy to rule out the issue.

I will check if the cables are shorted. Can you please explain what you mean by "try a sata powered usb 2 connector thingy"

Have you updated the bios and all the drivers?

I was going to try that later but you would think the motherboard would ship with the latest bios

Nope, but normally it should ship with a bios where the usb controller works... But its just a good idea to update the bios to the latest version afterall...

Not at all, that motherboard could have been sat in storage since 2018 so how would it have been updated?

Even on the latest hardware, it could have been manufactured months before launch and sat in a warehouse however long after that before you bought it.

Router:  Intel N100 (pfSense) WiFi6: Zyxel NWA210AX (1.7Gbit peak at 160Mhz)
WiFi5: Ubiquiti NanoHD OpenWRT (~500Mbit at 80Mhz) Switches: Netgear MS510TXUP, MS510TXPP, GS110EMX
ISPs: Zen Full Fibre 900 (~930Mbit down, 115Mbit up) + Three 5G (~800Mbit down, 115Mbit up)
Upgrading Laptop/Desktop CNVIo WiFi 5 cards to PCIe WiFi6e/7

Would this be an issue with the case or motherboard?

I'd suspect the case.

Have you installed all the optional windows updates? Some of them are driver updates... But yes at this point I guess it might be a hardware problem...
