So I just bought myselft a new ssd and I need a sata cable. If I plug a Sata 2.0 cable into a Sata 3 port will the speed be slowed down?

You used up all the cables the motherboard came with?

And if he cable is SATA 2, it (i think) will run only at 3mbps, while with 3.0, you run at 6mbps

Nope, a sata cable is a sata cable. The only thing that determines the speed is the controller on each end.

My System Specs: (Short list) i7 4770k, GTX 780, many SSD's, a 2 TB HDD(deceased :( ), Corsair 650D. Full list: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/kchriz6097/saved/8dh7YJ

Upgrade Plan: Acquire some Black Noctuas then add 16 or 32GB of 2133MHz memory

Yes, make sure you get a Sata 3.0 cable to maximize your SSD speeds.

Incorrect info sorry :( No the cable does not matter, just make sure you plug it into a SATA 3.0 port.

My Current Build:

What he said. a sata cable is a sata cable.

A sata cable is a sata cable regardless of what number is plastered to the title. The interface is what changes and the wiring has and will remain the same.

Edit:I should clarify @Altecice, I used your post to continue my point further. I felt the original sentence was a bit confusing.

It's a cable. The speed of the device is only determined by the controller (at least in the case of an SSD).

Nope. Well to be pedantic it shouldn't matter but if a cable is built down to a spec... .
