CPU choise

Go to solution Solved by DildorTheDecent,

Haha?

yup.

Now another question: The new Haswell refresh is comeing soon, should i buy a refreshed CPU?

If you're OCing, yes

if not don't bother.

That's how i see it anyway

Hey guys,

I want to upgrade my old gaming rig completely and now I can't decide wich CPU I should choose;

there's the I7-4770k, the I5-4670k, the I7-4930k, (the AMD FX9590), the AMD FX8350 or similar.(these are only examples and I'm open for every new Idea)

The I7-4930k is the verry high end choise, verry expensive and i don't know if i need it for gaming, rarely editing and animating.

the i7 4930k will not benefit you in game, the i7 4770k won't help that much either, the i5 is your best bet on the intel side, the FX8350 is the best on the amd side.

What GPU do you have?

If you were to go for a Haswell core series CPU you might as well wait until the Devils Canyon refresh arrives. If you only do a little editing I'd stay away from 4930k. You might find that the 4770k does help for editing but I've worked with 120fps 1080p video files with my 3570k and not had problems so I don't think you'd be disappointed with the performance of a 4670k.

Wow... fast response....

I have a budget about 1500$ (1200€)

My planned Graphics card: Gigabyte AMD R9 290 Windforce

  Chris

this forum is very acitve...

Focus your money on the gpu, it will help you more in gaming than a nice processor, the R9 290 is a very good card and will perform excellently at 1080p.

For CPU

So intel side, i5 or if you have the money i7

On AMD side, FX8320 or if you have the money FX8350

I would go i7-4770K.  While not necessary for gaming, some games perform better with hyper-threading and will only become more likely to utilize hyper threading in the future.  Better long-term solution.

Now one choise is left: the I5 or the FX8350? The FX is much cheeper, and i heared that AMD boards usually have better futures but performence? Is it the same?

I am an AMD user but i would go with an i5, they are popular, proven, cool, quiet and efficient.

If you have money to blow then why not get the Core i7 4930k works great. FX9590 may look good but looks may be deceiving.

But when winter comes you'll be sorry.

Basically adapting from that.

The i7-4770k is recommended throughout, it will perform for what you need and more. Yes it's boarder line overkill but that means that i'll will also perform for the future.

Go look around, on most Gaming build videos the 4770k will be there. from the extreme to the average the 4770k will perform. the fact is that you won't have to change as soon as the i5. And yes for others here hyperthreading is not used alot by many games but that doesn't mean It wont benefit him. If your looking for a  budget build going with the more expensive item doesn't mean that your over budget, the 4770k will provide you with all the editing power and animation power he'll need for now and the future. And since its a 'K' if you really need to in the future, overlocking will always help keep it up to speed.
