Win+Shift+S for taking a screenshot

Win+Shift+Left/Win+Shift+Right for moving windows across displays

Win+Up for maximising a window

Ctrl+Shift+Win+B for resetting DWM, sometimes helpful to get out of a black screen without rebooting

alt+tab. Saved me many times.

My First PC
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
Cooler: Asus TUF Gaming LC240
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-f gaming
RAM: 4x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RS (3200 MHz, CL16)
Storage: 1tb Samsung 980 Pro
Graphics Card: Asus Dual RTX 2060 OC
Case: Deepcool Matrexx 50
Power Supply: Corsair RM650x
Headset: Razer Blackshark V2
Keyboard: Corsair K70 Pro Mini (Speed Silver switches)
Mouse: Razer Viper Mini
Only changes I have made is I sold the 2060 for $235 AUD and bought a Powercolor Red Devil 6700 XT for $400 second hand (it was barely used, think I scored a deal on Ebay with that).
I'm learning video editing and trying to get some cash as a high school student.
I like F1, my favourite team is Scuderia Ferrari and favourite driver is Charles Leclerc. Favourite track is Red Bull Ring in Austria.
Playing with a 1080p 60hz monitor right now, hoping to upgrade to a 1440p 144hz one soon.

Living in AU and that pisses me off since every event is late at night or early in the morning (almost every F1 race starts around 11 PM AEST time)

-Windows key + D to minimize all windows and show desktop, hit again to bring up open applications....thank me later.

-Windows key + Tab to show applications you have on each monitor if using multiple monitor setup...also works for single monitor (just a more zoomed in version of alt+tab)

-Windows key + up arrow / down arrow to make applications full screen / smaller/minimize ?

and my personal favorite

Windows key+L it will quickly lock your PC

Not a keyboard shortcut by itself, but install PowerToys

PowerToys Run is basically Spotlight for Wiindows. Alt + Space pops a search box in the middle of the screen. It's much more flexible than the normal Run box (Win + R)

I'm kind of hooked on FancyZones too, because it's a much more powerful version of Aero Snap. I run multiple monitors at work and a 4k monitor at home, the added flexibility of creating a bunch of snap zones is amazing.

systeminfo is also a useful command line tool. I almost always pipe it into more, which pauses and waits for a keystroke after each screen of text. That will tell you when the machine was rebooted last, and give you the PC name in plain text you can copy and paste.

I sold my soul for ProSupport.

Alt+Space is very useful for some users, see below, having it override default shortcuts since windows 95 and probably earlier kinda sucks.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC : TASK MANAGER

ALT+PRTSCR :  take a snapshot of the active window, not the whole screen

WIN + PAUSE/BREAK :  open  management window, where you can access device manager, advanced system settings, remote desktop settings, and a whole bunch of things, plus a search box to find more obscure settings, control panel

ALT+SPACE  - OPEN WINDOW MENU (as if you click on the icon in top left corner but works even when application has no icon, or it's completely outside the screen, which can happen when you work with multiple monitors)

Once the menu is open, you can type M for move, S for size, N for minimize, X to close.

Ex.

ALT+SPACE , M, then press one directional key (UP, DOWN, LEFT or RIGHT) to start the drag process and hook the mouse and continue with keys, or you can now you can use the mouse to move the window where you want. Click or press ESC to finish dragging.

ALT+SPACE, S,  directional key to start the resizing, then continue with key or mouse

Also, few people are aware that you can hold Ctrl+Shift and go left/right to enlarge selection word by word instead of character by character, in most text editors.

That's just the default, you can set it to whatever you want (or disable the feature entirely). I never manipulate windows with the keyboard except for Win + arrows to move windows between Aero Snap zones, so it's fine for me. If I did, I'd change it to Win + Space, which just changes keyboard layouts by default.

Holy shit...I had such an issue before with HWinfo going fullscreen on my 1080p monitor after dragging from 1440p and not being able to move the windows around....Can't believe I didn't know this!

Because unlike ChatGPT, people have brains and actually think about what they're posting, most of the time.

ChatGPT can be very stupid, and can produce bad advice, bad solutions etc ...  like just yesterday we had in Programming section someone asking ChatGPT to write a C++ program to do something, and ChatGPT write a VB .Net program that did something else (though related to what was asked) because it's just some code looking at words and not actually understanding the requests.
