Laptop fan runs away / creeps upwards (Asus TUF Dash F15)

Chronified

Odd behavior from my laptop, the fan RPM slowly creeps up regardless of load / temperature.

Specs: Asus TUF Dash F15

i7 11370H

RTX 3070 @ 85w

16GB (2x8) 3200Mhz

2x 512GB NVMe

Here my fan is screaming after about 5 minutes of light desktop usage (Youtube and spreadsheets)

image.thumb.png.52b142f52ee42c6b49dd9440400ef943.png

"Solution" has been to change the power profile every 5 minutes. Drops the fan back down to 0rpm / low enough not to hear and the cycle repeats.

Doesn't matter if I'm going from Turbo to Eco, or Eco to Turbo, or any of the options available, it suddenly drops the RPM as soon as I change only to return a few minutes later.

image.thumb.png.00b59eef1fdb1476b1b8fadb36a19f50.png

Temps are fine, more than fine, I actually went as far as replacing the stock thermal paste and adjusting the pads thinking maybe a VRM was getting cooked and the RPM was increasing to counteract that. Nope, everything is fine and I dropped 5c idle temps in the process.

Silent does nothing, it still creeps upwards after 5 minutes.

Switching from from the dedicated GPU to iGPU or vice versa does nothing.

BIOS and Windows are fully up to date, problem existed on the original OEM Windows install, fresh Windows install and with Armoury Crate installed.

I can't find ANY way to manually control the fan, Google is helpless, any other solutions you guys can think of ?? Thanks!

.

For anyone else reading this with the same laptop
As of Feb 2023 there is no found solution.

Things that didn't work:

  • BIOS Reset
  • BIOS Flash to newest (v328)
  • A fewer older BIOS
  • Fan curve is missing in both software and BIOS,
  • Customizable Turbo profile doesn't exist,
  • Reformatting Windows
  • Speedfan
  • Reinstalling/Downgrading ArmoryCrate
  • New/Old chipset drivers
  • Asus Support (Sold at BestBuy)

You should have an option of Manual next to Turbo where you can set custom fan cur ves for CPU & GPU and power levels. Maybe try making sure it's plugged in/switch GPU modes/update, downgrade or reinstall Armoury Crate?image.png.c3a4a0533450931c0c88296efaff4ae9.png

Nope nothing there 😞  This is after completely reinstalling Windows and reinstalling the Armory Crate software. Noticing a lot of missing features on my 2021 TUF that the 2022 has (like yours)

Not sure, the hardware monitors all return proper RPM for the fans as they ramp, the software side just refuses to acknowledge it's creeping upwards

The reflash should've/would've solved that, if I did an RMA they'd likely just reflash, find it still has the issue, then say my device is out of production so there's nothing they can do

Thats actually super not nice from a brand like asus. You have some options left may or maynot fix the issue

You can clean the laptop and reapply the thermal paste

You can reprogram the bios using a 5$ adapter to a known working one (https://www.amazon.com/Organizer-Socket-Adpter-Programmer-CH341A/dp/B07R5LPTYM/ref=sr_1_3?crid=UZRR49Z5GS67&keywords=bios+reprogram+tool&qid=1676210997&sprefix=bios+reprogramm+too%2Caps%2C341&sr=8-3 You could find one in ebay,Aliexpress for cheaper)

I think asus is a sponser of LMG so complaing it there (according to https://linusmediagroup.com/ they are) or in twitter (usually it works) helps you fix the issue but i seriously doubt that

try contacting Best Buy support https://www.bestbuy.com/support
