i mean.. possibly?

they'll bring in a very large amount of filth, and with LOTS of filth, the chance of something conductive enough to cause problems getting in the wrong place is exponentially more common.

the better question is, why are there roaches in your computer, and why is your first repsonse not to exterminate them, before assessing the damage?

as for how to get rid of them.. disconnect all forms of power going to the computer, let it sit for a day to make sure it is properly drained, ideally you can enclose it in some sort of airtight box so you can just fog the air around the computer with insecticide instead of spraying it inside. step one is killing the bugs, step two is removing the mess they left behind THOROUGHLY. expect to be taking off heatsinks, replacing thermal pads, and going trough a larrge amount of cleaning fluids and 99% isopropyl alcohol for rinsing.

Oh this reminds me of all the things with bugs I had to work on.

I had to repair a phone because the buttons "sometimes wouldn't work", I opened it and there were roaches everywhere both dead and alive, had to poison them before working on the device. They weren't big hence the amount of them inside a phone, to give you an idea it was the size of a normal landline terminal, plenty of space inside, there were mashed roaches under the buttons so that's why it wasn't working.

Battery powered, runs on a single 18650 and connects to GSM, pretty common in rural areas. Technically a cell phone, just bigger, and with roaches.

Then a power supply, boy the amount of roaches inside was insane, apparently they were cooked to death or suffocated because the fan blades were completely stuck by a gunk made out of dead roaches, I moved it around and sounded like maracas. It was tough to clean as there was, well, shit, everywhere, but it worked again after cleaning replacing the fan.

Then a computer, picture a MOUNTAIN of dead roaches by the hard drive area, that's what I found inside, and of course everything else covered in crap, there were spider webs too but no signs of the spiders, at one point they must've been overwhelmed by the raw amount of roaches in there and had to get out of the computer, there were bodies between the mobo and tray too, but apparently their bodies don't conduct electricity, or their resistance is too high to short something, so that's good for you.

Front of the case was hollow and had an opening at the bottom, I reckon that was their entry point.

Perhaps the most interesting thing I found inside a computer was a rat mummy, conditions there apparently preserved it perfectly, so much it looked alive just chilling under the HDD, ironically the rat wasn't the problem with that PC, bad RAM was.

Users are FILTHY. That's why I always wear gloves before handling things, I never know what's inside.

Tender is the night
